It was funny when we scored, after the celebrations died down fans around me started taking bets on how long it would be before Bournemouth equalised.

haha i expected them to as well, sad times when you immediately think that.

but to me like i say it looked like the team wanted them to score also. There was absolutely no game plan you could have had that involved those last 20 minutes. It appeared to me either martinez was sitting on the 2-1 without the defensive organisation to even consider doing it, or the players just wanted to stroll about and if the ball went in and they didn't win the game, so be it.

Totally agree with your first post, but can't agree with this.

The problem he has with defending is not just a simple issue which can be fixed by a defensive coach, it's a problem with his entire way of playing. A defensive coach could work on us having a better defensive line, and being better at defending set pieces (both very useful by the way) but they wouldn't stop us from committing too many players forward, they wouldn't stop us from splitting the centre backs time and again and seeing people take advantage of the space they leave, they wouldn't improve the movement of the attacking players or the passing range of the midfielders and so stop us from getting caught on the ball in midfield, or overrule the manager by telling the attacking players to put in a shift and help their defenders out by jockeying and pressing.

Martinez's problem is that his entire philosophy is based around being the better team. He said as much over the weekend. He just thinks we have to learn to be better than the opposition, and therefore win the game. It's a preposterous idea, which just doesn't make any sense. Even the truly great sides don't just go out and win by outplaying allcomers, they dig in when necessary and win ugly. We are a hell of a long way from being a great side but we have no intention of winning ugly, so we end up not winning at all.

Even if the philosophy wasn't flawed, his way of implementing it is. In order to dominate games, you need a great midfield which wins its battles and builds a platform - but this is the weakest area of the pitch for us. We have no creativity, nobody who likes to carry the ball forward, and no great ball winner, so our midfield is regularly completely overrun.

There is no need for any coaches other than the manager & coach. The game is still the same & always will be.

There is need if all the people around you are attack minded.
Bobby, Jones and Dunc are all ex attacking players.
If you look at the top teams either the manager is defensive minded or the number 2 is.

What's the manager's job? To manage ALL aspects of how the teams is set up, and how the team plays.

If they can't do that without 'specialist' assistance, they shouldn't be doing the job. As I said, Catterick, Kendall & Royle never had them, and the game hasn't changed - so what's the point of them?

And that's our problem now. He does manage everything and he's not good enough. Jones and Lawrence are jobs for his mates. Dunc was a token gesture.
Most clubs now have specialist teams but for some reason Bill gave Bobby total control of the playing side of the club which is why we are in the mess we are in. He wanted the same across the park but they told him to do one.

if defending were his only flaw then looking for a solution would be a good thing BUT its not... he cannot motivate the players or the fans, he is my way or the highway, stubborn to a fault perhaps because he has no plan B as his ego refuses to allow him to believe his Plan A is not working. Players that disagree are sent away. He plays players out of position all the time, doesnt seem to know how to set a teaam out to win. Does not get the best out of players. he has no real encouragement for the kids coming up other than to proclaim them phenomenal even when they are not. The tunnel webcam from the weekend was very revealing. And he talks shoite all the time.
