To address youre last sebtence first, stones was brought up from the u21s to start reguarly was he not? or galloway, he has played a fair few. So that's that

There's very few managers in the league that would've first given the chance and secondly persisted with a young ball playing center half in such a high pressure league. Can't argue the fact that bobby did great getting him involved and the big reason for John bursting onto the scene is the persistence to stick with him even after costly mistakes.

And as for moyes, as he shown with Barkley, one mistake and John would've been shipped off out on loan or back to reserves, that's if he even got a chance to begin with. His reluctance to give young defenders a shot unless absolutely last resort eg. Duffy, is simple fact.

When John Stones started he was the most senior centre half in the squad who was available. in fact Martinez had started Alcaraz ahead of him the game before.

History seems to be getting re written here with regards to Martinez and stones. Let's also not forget that in our biggest game of last season Martinez also bottled it and went with Alcaraz over Stones once again.

So dealing with the facts not hypotheticals it was in fact Martinez who actually did the things you're saying Moyes may have done if he had been here.

Even in that 72 point first season there were worrying signs, notably the 4-0 RS, 3-2 palace and 2-0 Southampton defeats. The latter 2 were particularly bad and where we threw away a champ league spot. Goals were lost to set pieces Scott Dann etc. Give him his dues tho overall that was of course a good season but looking back we lost momentum towards the end and not sure we have ever recovered.

So you're using the limited chances that moyes gave Duffy - a player who did not play a single minute of senior football under Martinez - to illustrate that Martinez gave young defenders more chances. It's an interesting tactic, I'll give you that.

As much as I have enjoyed stones being involved with the team and welcomed it 2 years ago, is it not detrimental to him now to have this exposure?

The lad is still learning the game and recently he was our most senior defender available despite being out of form this season. Perhaps it can carry negative effects putting so much pressure on him so young, and giving him so much exposure to the game.

Compare to say playing him, but having an understanding that every now and again or whenever his fork is dropping that he sits on the bench for a more senior defender to fill in?

Right now he is open to all criticism and giving the chance he wouldn't be able to sit games out so he has to not only play but play an important role without any shelter from the flak that carries. .
I'm not saying don't play him, just thinking that not being able to shield him is a negative on his development

Interesting the youth squad has a preseason already scheduled and the first team doesn't.

In fact, we've heard about three times as much about the U21s/U18s since the semi than the first team.

What's happening isn't very subtle here, guys.
