Interesting the youth squad has a preseason already scheduled and the first team doesn't.

In fact, we've heard about three times as much about the U21s/U18s since the semi than the first team.

What's happening isn't very subtle here, guys.

nah sure our recent pre-seasons have all been half-arsed rubbish efforts so if you're looking for signs he staying that would be one.

The club is no longer tweeting quotes from Martinez during the press conference, and for the first time ever provided no warning that it was coming up.

One person (dunno who) asked any questions throughout the whole thing, and none of it related to protests, poor form, speculation surrounding his job, nothing. The vast majority was about Leicester and (for some reason) Spanish football. The briefing is clear.

We're just treading water for a fortnight now.

Well that's some very positive news :)

In a way I am kind of disappointed as I thought he was worth a try when he came from Wigan. Was happy to give him the benefit of the doubt as long as possible, but he completely lost me around Christmas time this year.

Then when you delve into it more, you look at stats etc, you realise he should never had been there in the first place, and what a two bob operation we are / were under Kenwright's tenure. Too lazy to go and source a decent manager to take us forward and get sucked in by Dave Whelan's garbage.

Kind of optimistic for the future, but at the end of the day, it's Everton innit! :)

Currently, its easy to turn every discussion into an anti Martinez display, but until our back up squad is strong enough, younger players will not get the ideal amount of 'rest'. I think thesituation at City is different, Sterling has not played because he simply has not produced the goods when he has had the chance, and it is the poor form of Bony that has given the young guy(name escapes me) his chance, which he has taken. Martinez gets beaten with a new stick every day, and leaving Barkley out for a rest would create all sorts of fume on here. Stones was brilliant most of last season, but was not picked this season, for a while, because Jagielka and Funes Mori were more effective and less prone to errors. By all means blame Martinez for our defensive frailty, but don't knock him for trying to eradicate this frailty.
You say it turns into an anti martinez thing but is it not down to him to build a squad to compete over a 38 game + season?

We only have 3 senior defenders, one is 21 and the other came from south america with no english experience either in the game or culture. That is a shocking gamble to take, with no experience back up to play there in case something goes wrong. Stones not had the best season and he was dropped for a little bit yeah, i'll aknolodge that. But where was his protection when he needed it? the fans were getting on his back through sheer fustration, and yet he was not taken out the firing line until it was far too along to have the desired effect.

Same as ross, who replaces ross? Because i remember our manager spending weeks on end talking about signing a number 10, only to not end up getting one. then wierdly enough, the young lad then expected to play that roles for the next 38 + games form drops because they have the entire weight of the creativity for the team on his shoulders.

People like to forget that these players are only young, and have a lot to learn. What is this teaching them? Either perform or be treated as a scapegoat for the teams troubles? Absolutely no experienced back ups where they are needed and you wonder why these 'key' players are not performing so far into the season.

Probably because we all dissect and moan about every word he mutters

So, negating the obvious (Leicester):

* we're closest in points & position to Stoke and the group (Watford - Crystal Palace) to the right of us. Our squad is considerably more expensive, mainly due to our prize striking asset, who has mostly performed... so far, so pap.

* Tottenham have an expensive squad... but this graph doesn't incorporate net spend, so in fairness the top four is where they should expect to be after the Bale money. Similarly, Southampton have invested their Liverhampton money well.

* West Ham have spent a similar gross amount in assembling their squad... free stadiums/money bag porn barons aside. But the value of their team now will be a lot higher - though, I'd imagine, nowhere near ours.

* Sunderland & Newcastle are actually pap. And I might cackle bitterly and show it to some Liverpool fans.

...the main thing to take away, obviously, is that this cements the idea that we have grotesquely under-performed. And you only get the credit for astutely buying ya right-back for £60K once, IMO (though sing it all day to him, obviously) - that is, this graph doesn't reflect how talented the squads are, which might be a little overstated for us...

... but a team with Baines/Coleman & Barkley/Lukaku & Jags/Stones should be well in the mix, at least. If it was an exact science, then a graph of estimated squad value might be somewhat more meaningful to us, though I'm sure it would just lead us to the same conclusion more emphatically.

It's an interesting indication of how we might expect the club to operate publicly under Moshiri: keep things quiet and professional while important decisions are being made and refuse to allow a media circus to arise.

Credit to Martinez: if he has indeed been told he's gone in the summer he's keeping things dignified and giving a solid account of himself from a PR perspective. Obviously he has a career to rebuild - which will certainly be in his mind - but he's conducting himself professionally where others might not.

I think it makes perfect sense to be holding back any info about pre season. There is no doubt wheels are in motion with a plan from the current regime already but I suspect that there will be enough flexibility to allow the new manager some leeway to tweak some aspects to suit what he and his team want to acheive.

The apparent state that thier fitness has been in this season - I think the first half of pre season should be simply running up and down Formby beach for 8 hours a day carrying sacks of coal. So that doesnt take much planning!

Agreed their fitness levels have been shocking this year. Fat arse Ross needs to spend some serious time in Snowdonia pre-season.

Remember being 3-0 up after about 20 minutes versus the Barcodes and absolutely mullering them in the first half?

Then hanging on for grim death at the end, scraping a 3-2 victory.
I'm pretty sure their first goal was one hell of a strike and the other - in the final minute - involved a clear foul. Yes we mess up all the time but not sure this was one of those. Still I was happy with my Romelu 3-2 Scorecast.

If he's been told he's going, then they'll have agreed a severance deal, the terms of which are almost certainly bound by confidentiality on both sides, pre and post his departure.

Now it's got to this point I would have good money on the separation being by "mutual decision" and Roberto will wander off with a fat cheque and his dignity intact.

As it should be IMO.

Whatever's else, he was always dignified as the public face of EFC.

When John Stones started he was the most senior centre half in the squad who was available. in fact Martinez had started Alcaraz ahead of him the game before.

History seems to be getting re written here with regards to Martinez and stones. Let's also not forget that in our biggest game of last season Martinez also bottled it and went with Alcaraz over Stones once again.

So dealing with the facts not hypotheticals it was in fact Martinez who actually did the things you're saying Moyes may have done if he had been here.
Stones was half fit for that match and Alcatraz was coming of a man of the match performance. No one was expecting them to year us a new ass because they weren't anything special first leg
