Anyone ever had that crazy X girlfriend that would argue everything and could never be wrong no matter how preposterous the effidence was stacking up against her . Like yis both know she's just talking pony but it wouldn't stop her.

Kinda reminds me of someone.
Replace X with just about every woman I know and I completely get what your talking about.

Here's a scenario I've just made up (bit of fun, fume at it if you have to).

The Everton board are rocked by the 14/15 season. They have huge talents like Barkley and Stones and the premier league is finally in a state of open turmoil after Ferguson's resignation and Ciry keeping a big side out the top 4 every year. Despite this we are in a relegation battle and finish bottom half. Kenwright has watched Moyes control everything for 11 years on a low bet spend, now suddenly players aren't happy and are making it vocal, 30 mill was spent on a striker and we went backwards.

Kenwright being the man he is though decides to give Roberto the benefit of the doubt. The 15/16 season starts but the old habits creep in. There's fan discontent at the board that Roberto's failings are antagonising, there's fan discontent at the manager in unprecedented never before seen levels, we're still bottom half despite a number of new players coming in. The defence is getting worse and player unrest is in the air again.

Kenwright is watching all this in shock but is also working on the investment deal with Moshiri. Can he really hand over Everton to this new combo of manager and owner?

Not knowing what to do he puts in a phonecall to his best friend in football. They never stopped talking. 'David what do I do?'. Suddenly Moyes is available though. The job at Villa, turned down. West Ham, turned down. Swansea, turned down. Sunderland, turned down. Newcastle, turned down. Moyes openly admits though that he's turning down offers from Europe as he eyes a return to the premier league, but at what club? Baines Jags Mirallas are on the phone to him 'what's happened to our form gaffer'. And then in a few rare to interviews he starts dropping subtle references 'Everton would be a great club to go back to'.

Moshiri wants a manager popular with the fans to cement his new ownership and restore solid league form. He's no expert in managerial hiring from his time at Arsenal so leaves it to Bill.

He makes one final call on the last day of the 15/16 season after an embarassing finish of 13th. 'Please come home David', 'Aye Chairman'.

Think about it. Think about it. It could happen.

That's a very roundabout way of saying, 'is there any chance Moyes would come back?'

Good article that which covers the obvious rebuilding process and long term outlook.
No excuses for leaking so many goals playing two defensive midfielder's every game, Martinez has a shocking defensive record in the Prem with us and Wigan, and it looks like he doesn't admit to himself it's a problem.

He came out 3 days ago and said we don't have a problem defending crosses, the stats show we have conceded 11 goals from headers, most in the league.

I'm sick of his bullshit, just speak the truth FFS.

I am starting to become very afraid.

It's insulting that is....it implies that the 'fan base' opinion is utterly null when everyone can see it's an issue.

The man's an arse.

I hope he gets next season because wether you're pro or anti RM if he fails next season there's no doubt either way that he's not good enough.

I'm prepared to gamble on the chance he might fix it though.
One thought though, if he is finishing mid table with the current squad, how would he improve if he lost key players wanting to move on in the summer? Lukaku for example may leave , how does he replace his 20 odd goals and see an improvement in results?

said it before and will say it again, without lukaku we would be in a relegation fight

Maybe, maybe not. Even going by your hypothetical data we'd be 5 points above it. You have to assume whoever we played instead would have gotten a couple of goals (not as many as lukaku) and added 4 to 6 points to that so we'd probably be 9 to 11 points clear of relegation putting us around 13th or 14th.

I think it's highly unlikely that he gets removed as manager before the season is over

However, if we have a rotten run between now and the end of the season, I think the pressure will be on him

Interesting times to be sure

I'm not even sure who'd we get in if was removed anyway

I've seen the shouts for Mourinho, and made my opinions clear on why I don't want him in the Martinez Potential Replacement thread, but who else could we get who would be a genuine improvement?

I think Martinez can make this work and I dearly hope that he does, but he needs to do something about that defending. To say it's the fault of the players doesn't really hold water when you consider it's the same defence that did so well in his first season and, if anything, we've traded up by moving on Distin, Alcaraz and Bidewell and replacing them with players such as Stones, Browning, Galloway and Garbutt

I believe the tactics are more the reason than the personnel at this point (Howard aside, who he at least had the decency to drop)

In some ways, I chalk the first season defensive success more on teams not being familiar with the tactics rather than anything else

The fact West Ham's players essentially admitted that their core plan of attack was to cross the ball in tells you all you need to know about our tactical fallibility when it comes to defending. Teams know what we're weak at. We need to get a new defensive coach in and we also need to start drilling set pieces more in training

I like Martinez, but he's got to sort that defense out or I can't see him making it past Christmas

He's not getting a new defensive coach.

He's been with this guy since Wigan and was obviously so happy with their defensive performances (???) he brought him along.

Either he has compromising photos of Martinez or Martinez wouldn't know defence if it bit him

We dont need a new defensive coach. 15 goals conceded in all competitions since the new year tells you we dont. We DO need a captain and leader on the pitch.
