He's obviously not leaving before the end of the season

Once the season is over though, regardless of whether we win the cup or not, I hope the club hierarchy have a proper evaluation of him and weight up their options

Our defending still isn't good enough

We need a top level goalkeeper, a proper LM and a brand new defensive coach

If in the summer he sorts all three of those issues, I'm happy for him to stick around

If he just sorts two of them, we may be all right. For instance, if we have a great keeper then it might offset how awful Martinez and his coaching staff are at organising the defence.

If he sorts those issues, I genuinely think we'll be a force next season, with him at the helm stewarding it

He has to check his ego at the door, realise the holes in his game and correct them

If he does that, all the other teams need to be put on notice, because Everton are coming back!

If Lukaku leaves we will be in trouble.

I'm not fuming, I've just had enough of a guy who continues to produce less than the sum of the parts.

The opportunity was there to break the mold in the way that Leicester and Spurs have done, even West Ham potentially might.

All the talk of building something over the long term, it's never going to happen when he can't build consistently over the short term. Yesterday was the final straw when everything was in Martinez' favour, a great previous weekend, a free week, the feel good factor from Moshiri, playing against an Arsenal team kicked out of two cups and in a shocking run of form, and we produce the most mentally and tactically inept performance in many a year.

Sadly, it's not worked out, he doesn't have the skill set to rake us to the levels our ambitions require.
...so, in the space of 7 days you've gone from a position that 'yes, Martinez will no doubt get next season to get things right' (or a position close to that) to one where it's time to go after one more 90 minutes of football.

I'm amazed.

I have no idea whether Moshiri's presence is going to take things in a different direction than before, but when before have Everton managers been sacked for getting midtable and to two cup SFs (and possibly more to come)?

The football this season and the amount of goals and wins in all competitions we've had shows progress of sorts. It's simply not the case to present this as a collapse.

I think you've succumbed to forum fever here mate. It's mass hysteria that has the horrible look about it of children stamping their expectant feet.

I base my opinions simply on the league since he has been here. It speaks for itself

gave him the full season did he Dave?
...no, he gave him full backing to start next season and a chance to get it right. That's the point. There's nothing in your cut and paste story to give comfort to anyone seeking Martinez's dismissal.

Oh, and btw, there is no comparison between Martinez and Smith...who had us dancing on the trap door. That'll be the reason why Kenwright doesn' feel the need for a formal declaration of confidence.

I'm utterly amazed people think that a loss to Arsenal after reaching Wembley last week means a solitary thing.

There's some level of cluelessness out there if there's a belief Martinez isn't anything other than certain to start off next season as Everton manager. He's safe now, imo. But even those who doubt that will have to acknowledge it if we get to the cup final.

Honestly, heads need wobbling here.

Well Dave, it might not mean "a solitary thing" to you but it meant a great deal to the almost 40,000 of us who went to watch that performance yesterday......there was much more "cluelessness" on display at The Park yesterday under the auspices of Roberto than was ever displayed on here in those halcyon days when the plotters were an irritating minority wearing metaphorical sandwich boards proclaiming "we are all doomed"

:(

Oh how we laughed at @ianefc and the boys then lol

We ain't laughing now, no sir

If Lukaku leaves and he doesn't get the new defensive coach, we'll be down excrement creak without a paddle

It seems Martinez trusts this Lawrence guy who doesn't understand what is the art of defending. Do we practice defending setpieces now?

Sorry mate, I can't agree with that. I think the disruption caused by sacking him before the semi lessens our chances of progressing and ultimately winning the competition.

For me, he stays till the season's over, and then the position's reviewed. If we win the cup, but a better manager is identified who's available and willing to take the job on under whatever remit he's given, then there's no reason why we can't go our seperate ways.

Granted, he'd probably get a stay of execution, but we're in no position to do anything which lessens our chance of a trophy.

No worries, Wooly :)

I reckon the only way to keep Lukaku is to sack him.
Agreed, and show him we are serious about european footy, it must be soul destroying for the lad carrying this manager week in week out

Must admit though I am smiling and cant stop smiling about the kopites blowing a 2 goal lead
with 10 minutes to go mwah aha aha aha aha ha

Or for him to at least do something to show Lukaku that he's taking steps to improve the defending

Again, the minute he kicks his mate from Wigan to the curb and gets in a new defensive coach he makes a big statement of intent and shows strong leadership by making a tough decision. He shows that he can check his ego at the door, as well as cutting a long time colleague loose, for the benefit of the club

If I'm Lukaku, I see that and the possible promise of Moshiri opening the purse strings in Summer as a genuine reason to stick around, at least until January

Lukaku deserves to be in a top half team this season, and if we could defend he would be
