@davek - if Martinez is retained beyond the end of the season I hope truly you are correct and I am wrong.

Whilst atypical of Everton, I believe it (his removal is (i) likely to happen because expectations are changing, and most importantly (ii) warranted given the paucity of results and the complete lack of forward momentum, relative to our peers and absolute, by the playing squad as a whole.

In a season were Pochettino, Ranieri and even Bilic have advanced their own and their clubs causes, Martinez has done the exact opposite. No through a lack of desire or ambition, it's a lack of ability, and that cannot be overcome.

So you agree that theres a chance he could be sacked?

It was my prize money argument wasnt it!!!!!!

I don't think there's a chance of him getting sacked, beyond a truly horrible run in which sees us limp out of the cup and finish 15th or so.

Moshiri won't want to come across as an 'Abramovich' - he won't sell a player unless he has absolutely no choice, and I don't think he'll sack a manager for the same reason.

Although Martinez is useless, even I don't think we'll finish the season as badly as we'd have to do for him to get the bullet.

It doesn't matter. It's not important for what we're discussing. Of course he's lied. But how does that affect the pov that he'll continue to back rather than sack a manager...especially after backing the goon Smith and his relegation scares?
I'm not bothered by them, I'm bemoaning the fact they are there in the place of actual cogent argument.

It wasn't meaningless though was it? As pointed out, he said he'd be in charge the following season. And if that dullard Smith would have gotten Everton to midtable he'd have still been there the season after that.

1/ Starting line up consistently has a young crop of players in there that weren't under Moyes.
2/ I said competed the whole season well. Obviously the home PL matches aren't the whole season are they?
3/ No, but we can try and take some pride in getting to the latter stages cant we? Or maybe when previously in other seasons we bellyflopped out of them all the whingeing was unwise and OTT? W've done well in them this season. I for one give credit for it. I suppose you can continue to think it's no big deal and beneath a club like ours that's won the square root of f.a for 21 seasons..
4/ Yes, that man...the one who was kept on.

Youngest average age of Premier League squads this season
Team Age Days
Tottenham 24 295
Liverpool 25 267
Newcastle 25 364
Man Utd 26 57
Southampton 26 287
* This takes into account starting line-ups only and players who have appeared in at least six Premier League games

strange you never seemed to give moyes any credit for reaching semis and a final though isn't it - at least be balanced and not use double standards, i will tell my son in years to come about that great semi final against city we threw away with a bizarre sub

as for it being beneath us - no dave what is beneath us is the acceptance of sitting 12th and being an easy touch for any side with any ambition that turns up to play us, that IS unacceptable, having nothing to play for by early march in the league is also unacceptable dont you think

we have not compted well in the league - we are sat in 12th with the worst hom record we have ever had in the premiership mate - yes worse than under smith or walker

I think Moshiri's lack of response to Bill's talk of Martinez last Saturday was very telling.

Let's not forget, Moshiri has seen at close hand one of the finest and most advanced managers ever in Wenger - he will have very exacting standards and expectations.

He is at the mancheter derby right now, I can lip read and he defo said to the guy next to him
" what are those 4 players doing in front of the keeper? Why are they not on the half way line"

If there is anyone who still thinks that the majority cannot see the brilliance of Martinez, please google* 'white star line & titanic' and see you ancestors on the bridge. (*Other search engines are also available)

We need to start a 'you renew, we renew' campaign, ie, renew the clown with a decent manager and we'll renew our season tickets.

After the two cup runs?

No, it's not enough for me

Like I said, I'm getting there and I'm not as staunchly behind him as others on here are, but I also think that if he wins that Cup and we scrape enough wins to finish in the top 10, that'll do provided he addresses the defence

If we get spanked in the Cup, finish in the bottom half and he doesn't do any of the stuff I want him to do on that list? Then I'll have to reassess my position

Cup runs are meaningless if you don't win the cup, for me anyway. League is bread and butter. Yes winning the cup means he will stay beyond next season which is something I do not like because of the league form. Like what I said before he wins the cup he won't get the sack in May surely. Do I want him stay in charge...no because purely on the awful league form and no sign of fixing the problems within.

Probably been put up before but says it all for me

that'll do provided he addresses the defence
And you honestly expect this to occur any time soon? I wish it would, however I'd say it is bordering on fanciful to expect it to happen.

For whatever reason (which is another debate entirely), Martinez is either unable or unwilling to prioritise the improvement of our defence.

Furthermore, if he ever did see it as a paramount aspect in the change of our form then I sincerely believe he'd be unable to competently rectify it.

A leopard can't change its spots... it's simply not in his philosophy to play in a way whereby a solid defence can be realistically expected.

This thread will be toxic if we lose against the RS and then the semi final a few days later.

I don't think I could take two defeats like that.

I don't accept that. I hate fences that much if a house had one I wouldn't buy it. Martinez out. Never wanted him never will really want him, but we'd be hard pushed to get rid of Him after winning a Cup, plus it'd give an ENTIRE generation of Evertonians one of the best days of their lives. He'd deserve a bit of free reign on that alone, plus he's better in the in the 'off-season' than he is during. Which isn't hard as he's useless during.

Actually don't think we would be hard pushed to get rid of Martinez if we win the cup, it'd be case of thanks, but we've decided we need to go in a different direction in terms or managing and coaching so we're terminating your contract with immediate effect.
It really is as simple as that. He would get a payoff and his CV would have two FA Cup wins on it... and we could move on and hopefully quickly improve under a new regime.
