Would this ever actually occur though? I doubt Martinez, who is notoriously stubborn and self-believing, would accept such an intervention.

And if a coach was eventually forced upon him then in the end the final approach and setup for each game would be ultimately down to him.

It may offer short term benefits such as defensive confidence and managing set plays, but we'd still be liable for suicide football from the back.

We'd also still play in the way that Martinez would desire. Personally, the problems run much deeper than requiring one new defensive coach.

My hope is that with continued demand from our supporters for better defending, he'll take it on board

At Wigan, I think most of them were just happy to be in the Premier League to begin with. We expect more at Everton, such as an actual defence, and my hope is that as more people step forward to criticise his defensive set up, it will finally have an effect on what he he does

For a long time, I was banging this drum on my lonesome and most people seemed to think it was more down to the personnel than the tactics. Some would even staunchly state that now

However, I think more and more people are looking at the set up and placing the blame on the tactics more than the players

It will eventually get to the point where supporter unrest will either cause Martinez to amend his philosophy or the board might look to a new manager. I'm personally hoping for the former rather than the latter, as I think Martinez brings a lot that's good to the table outside of his defensive tactics and set up

If he gets a top defensive coach and actually listens to him/her, I genuinely think we can turn a corner

I'm thoroughly aware that this is based on a LOT of variables of course, but I still think Martinez can turn this around. Whether he will though is still up in the air

Unlike @The Esk , I don't think Martinez lacks the necessary skill set to be a success here. I think he lacks one particular skill that he can easily cover for so long as he checks his ego at the door and is prepared to make some amendments to the way the team play

Now, he may never do this, in which case I think his days as our manager will eventually be numbered, but I still think it's possible that he can, thus I'm not in the "Out" camp as of this moment

You can spend all the money you want on players and still be rubbish if the man in charge is inept, Liverpool have proven that. Money may obscure his shortcomings slightly but you're clearly not a stupid bloke, so why you're suggesting money is the sole factor for success if bemusing.
No mate, the difference is Liverpool seldom buy quality.

Biscan?
Smicer?
Carroll?
Diouf?
Diao?
Lallana?
Sakho?
Mignolet?

Some of these are making my eyes bleed.

If we buy quality then we will be a better team.

Stoke on a par with Everton? Who said that? Not seen anyone argue that in ages. Not even close. Historically, never. Even contemporary facts wouldn't support this.

One season in the top half in what, seven? Very very grim.

It's been an interesting shift from the cult now. No longer are they bizarrely spinning the last 18 months of form, we are being asked to believe in maybes and the never-never; stuff that might happen in May... Or next season... Or in the future.

You can't defend last season's league and cup runs.

You can't defend this season's league form.

You can't defend us going out the moment we met decent opposition in the league cup.

So here we are, two games from glory, fourth lowest in the league of the five remaining teams. In the head to heads we've not beaten any of them this season.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - I expect us to win at Anfield and if we get past West Ham (if we even have to play them) we will win the Cup. And then we can pat El Fraudo on the back and say "thanks for the trophy, let's agree an amicable split" and we both can start anew.

He's got nothing left ultimately.

I don't dislike the man but it's painful seeing how out of his depth he is

Well I'm not sure I'd even lump McGeady in with that lot...then again...but I see your point.

If he sacks Dennis Lawrence and brings in a defensive coach who has even an inkling of what it means to defend itd win some goodwill from me at least.

"Roberto said to me "I'll get you into the Champions League in four years".

So, is this Billy telling lies - and if so, do we take any confidence in "what a manager" verbal stumble?

Is this Martinez managing his greatest tosh talking - and we heard it second hand?

Would we be a better club with both of them watching on way outside of the tent?

Irony!
