I'm not advocating bringing him back but you can be sure that if Moyes was in charge we would not be throwing away leads every other week. Under Martinez we are very naive when defending, Moyes would put an end to that.
That said he wouldn't have us playing the expansive attacking game that enables us to lead so many of our recent performances.

Well, yeah? Do you think Lukaku, Barkley and Stones would be this good after 3 seasons under a different manager? Martinez sets up to play to Lukaku's strength (he says that himself), which allows Barkley freedom to make mistakes and improve and the way we're more a passing team than long ball helps out Stones. Just three examples, could mention more and can mention players who have went downhill under Martinez but them players are top top players.
I like you, you're funny
Thanks for the debate.. :)

Fans always have stark views on managers right after a big loss...same as after a big win.

...and if Everton are running round Wembley with silverware almost EVERYONE will be back onside, regardless of the bravado now.

People were buzzing after Chelsea mate, but very few were convinced that that level of effort in the performance would become a regular thing.

I think Martinez has in him what's needed to take us to Wembley and see Jagielka lift the cup, and we'll all sing his name and be made up for both him and the club.

But that goodwill won't run very deep if the league form next season is a repeat of what we've seen so far this season. That's not people being fickle, it's just realism.

This is the last I'll say on things for now

In my opinion;

Martinez's big flaw is the defence and I believe he needs a new defensive coach to assist him, while also adjusting his tactics overall

If he doesn't do this, I don't think he'll last through next season

If he doesn't address the defence but does manage to get a good enough goalkeeper in who can make up for the defensive deficiencies, I think he'll be fine

So basically, next season depends on him amending the tactics and coaching staff (Which to be honest isn't that likely) or him getting in a proper world class keeper who can clean up the regular messes his tactics cause (Which is slightly more likely)

It's all up in the air and this summer is going to be an interesting one to say the least

When we get one of those rare wins do you not think that some posters aren't going to criticise the manager and actually just spend a bit of time enjoying their club win instead? At the end of the day I have wanted Martinez out for over 12 months and have been very vocal about that , but I'm not coming on here to complain after a win when that's all I want from my team.

If the team bottles it a week later for example and tactically we are awful then I have every right, as does anyone else of not being happy with that.
I'm looking for consistency mate. If you hand the brick bats out when we lose have the good grace to get back on after a big win and offer the bouquets too.

Its called character.

I'm sorry but cannot see winning a cup as a bad thing.
Even though it will relieve some pressure on Martinez, he'll still be under a tremendous amount of pressure to get league results, and if he doesn't, Moshiri will have enough of a say and he will go.
We haven't had a trophy win since 95. 21 years. Would take a cup every single time.

People saying he can't be sacked because we are in the semi final of the cup, well before that small matter of the semi final we have 4 league games to attend to.

What happens if we don't get any results from those 4 games? Doesn't it matter?

Only at a club like Everton would you get such blind loyalty as not to sack him. It took an abysmal 1st half performance against Boro for Smith to be shown the door, seems like it's going to take about another 20 performances before the board see sense and remove him from his duties.

He's so far out of his depth that it simply needs to be sorted asap.

I completely agree.

nevermind. The hysteria will fade again soon and we'll be back to where we were.
I think this is almost certainly true. We're going to see a barrage of stuff about things being unacceptable after every draw or defeat till the end of the season. But I think if our board are happy with the level of players they've seen coming in then they'll stick for now unless we start to look in any realistic danger of losing them.
They will be as aware of where we need to improve as the fans are and how likely that is. I'm convinced he'll get time to get it right and this is year zero for them.
They've clearly already seen something they like so don't see them reacting to anything until they've had a good look.

Couldnt care less about Moyes mate. He could win the CL with Barcelona for all I care.

Roberto has a blind spot. At times, (Chelsea FAC), he appears to address it.

But more often than not, he doesnt. It is infuriating, because as you say, he has performed.

Choice is his, cos if he continues like this, he is toast imo.
Players need to get up and act like grown men too.
