Moyes did that in an era when the 'Big 4' were dominant. The money in today's game has narrowed that gap to levels we haven't seen since the 70s/80s.

You fixate on this points total like it is the great thing we have ever done. You do know that we have better that points total many times in our history, don't you Dave?

The extra cash has helped other teams catch us up. It's had no net positive effect for us. That's why Moshiri's cash is required.

It's quite funny you say that about moyes, because Martinez as come to a big club and ripped the heart from it. We used to have a proud home record, it was always a tough place but now it's a free for all which now reads

People were buzzing after Chelsea mate, but very few were convinced that that level of effort in the performance would become a regular thing.

I think Martinez has in him what's needed to take us to Wembley and see Jagielka lift the cup, and we'll all sing his name and be made up for both him and the club.

But that goodwill won't run very deep if the league form next season is a repeat of what we've seen so far this season. That's not people being fickle, it's just realism.

I would of sacked him at the end of last season . i would sack him tomorrow, and yes before any semi final.

I'm sorry but cannot see winning a cup as a bad thing.
Even though it will relieve some pressure on Martinez, he'll still be under a tremendous amount of pressure to get league results, and if he doesn't, Moshiri will have enough of a say and he will go.
We haven't had a trophy win since 95. 21 years. Would take a cup every single time.

I'm beginning to look on Martinez as a bit of a fling on holiday when you've not had your end away for beards.

You're well chuffed if you get your end away / win a cup , swop email addresses and promise to keep in touch, but then go away and sort your life out properly with someone who can do more than give you a fleeting moment of pleasure.

Higher league positions, more prize money, can attract a higher calibre of player, fans who work all year and spend a good chunk of their money to watch us play going away happy from Goodison.

I'm looking for consistency mate. If you hand the brick bats out when we lose have the good grace to get back on after a big win and offer the bouquets too.

By that theory villa fans shouldn't have anything to say about garde then if they win a game every now and again. If you don't back the manager then why would anyone be praising him just because we win? I will give the man credit for it sure but it won't change my mind. Here is the thing though mate, if we had beaten west ham, he would have came away looking like a manager who knew how to do well. Besting a west ham team with one less player would have been brilliant, instead he ballsed it up yet again and for all our phenomenal play, we got 0 points.

And in all honesty, correct me if I'm wrong but take lukaku out of this team , half his goal tally for the year (is that 9 goals?) and include the fact that Sunderland villa and Newcastle have been awful for 2 years, we would already be fighting relegation under him. Last year when we were 14th we had the three relegated teams below us and those three. Come march 2016, if we lose to united, Bournemouth draw , Watford draw and Swansea win, we are only two places above the same awful teams from last year. And one of those were promoted!
