@davek

Do you not at all think it is possible that the reason why Martinez done so well in his first season is because for the first time in years we had a influx of new players coming into the squad which encouraged the players to go out and enjoy themselves? Considering the same players were mostly here when all we could do is loan a couple of crap players to plug holes?

Is it not at all possible that the new players combined with new manager after 11 years gave us a little but of a boost which carried on throughout the year? When it all died down, the real Martinez Everton came through?

I dont ask for a change of mind. My minds not turning until such a point as this manager is given the cash to fix defensive problems out and sorts that in the same way as he sorted a pop gu attack out last summer.

Just even handedness after wins and losses...in fact. you just gave me an idea....
He has had money for defenders , in fact he has technically signed 5 of them already. He has also spent reportedly 46 million on strikers since he came here so the money has been there to buy them.

So who out of jags stones mori Coleman and Baines should be dropped for these fixes? I mean the same players mostly were quite good together not that long ago, in fact under martinez himself in year one. So who is suddenly at fault for our defensive issues?

Spurs are the only team to concede fewer away goals than us.

We've lost fewer away games than any other team in the league.

Stoke were only a point behind United at the start of today. They've beaten City, United and Chelsea at the Brittania and held Arsenal.

Bournemouth beat United and Chelsea after drawing with us.

West Brom have beaten United and Arsenal at the Hawthorns.

Southampton whooped Arsenal 4-0 at St Mary's and have also beaten Liverpool and West Ham there as well as denying Leicester 3 points.

If we were that badly organised our away form would be as bad as our home form.

We've got the eighth best away record in the league. Break out the bunting.

Best FB pairing in the league. 3 England internationals, one reputedly worth north of £50m. Irish & Argentinian internationals - Argentinian cost £9m.

And you think he needs to spend to sort them out?

No. He needs to pull his feckin finger out and drill them.

Aint difficult is it?

Spot on mate. Cooler heads will prevail...which is why earlier I was making the point about industry wide context. Forum fever does not penetrate the citadel of the boardroom, intense and prolonged media criticism does.
Definitely think if you step away from forums for a few days then it's like none of this is happening. I've seen managers survive much more than a few pundits saying we should be higher up the league.
I was so fed up last January and yet my anger barely made a ripple at boardroom level despite constant rants at my friends. It'll all pan out next season and most of this will be forgotten.
Big thing for me is that even with massive improvement in seasons to come or a completely different manager we may never get a better chance to win a trophy than this for a long time. And it would be great to put all feelings about the manager to one side and get right behind them just to help that happen.

I'm looking for consistency mate. If you hand the brick bats out when we lose have the good grace to get back on after a big win and offer the bouquets too.

Its called character.

Hmmm using that analogy Dave, shouldn't you be slating him after a loss then? after al you want the people who want him out to praise him when we win, yet you defend him no matter win, draw or loss? Talk about double standards...

Maybe in the see-sawing forum, which goes from elation to frenzied fume in hours never mind days, we could perhaps reflect on those lines from Rudyard Kipling?

Alternatively we could just say 'nah'

Martinez has been managing in the Premier league for nearly 7 years and at no time has demonstrated that he has the ability to sort out defensive frailties. 7 years premier league experience is quite a background.

7 years and he has never built/ improved a defence. It has always gone backwards. He isn't interested in defending, it bores him he would rather go out and buy another winger or attacking midfielder.

There is nothing in his managerial history to indicate that he is capable of sorting out a premier league defence. Everything points to the opposite - that slowly but surely his teams ability to defend gets worse and worse.

He had £13 million in January and blew it on a striker that he has barely used.

It's amusing that it mostly goes awol after a decent win like.

No, there is a permanent undercurrent of dissatisfaction. People like to enjoy victories so do not come on here after victories because they would get dog's abuse if they did so. It doesn't mean that one victory has changed their mind. I don't care if we beat Liverpool and Utd away and win the cup. I still want him out because he has proven himself to be a complete failure as a manager this season, last season and while at Wigan. He achieved the records points total based on Moyes defence. Every pundit states that. It is completely undisputed. How else would you explain the complete reversal in our defensive performance since then despite the personnel being more or less the same and Martinez history of poor defensive organisation?
