This is not a defence of RM, who I want to see gone, but this is the age of hype, bling, mindless celebrity, breaking news, instant social media updates and delusional self-entitlement, for many 'young people' there is nothing of substance or depth to what they do, and they are simply not equipped with the necessary patience and mental fortitude to cope with getting through a game of football that is not going well. An inability to see the bigger picture or make rational judgements means the only likely outcome is them screaming at how unfair it all is. It is society's problem, not just Everton's.

Maybe this being the biggest underachievement Evertonians have seen in decades is the problem, not Those Whiny Self-Absorbed Millennials. At least when the team was gash in the 90s, expectations were low to match.

I don't agree with your argument there. By the time Moyes left for Man Utd we were an established top 6 PL club so the time when Martinez got 5th in his first season was an usual business and surely not doing more than the sum of their parts. At that point, he had kept up the expectation we all going to expect from this squad. Our aim was achieved, it is non-debatable.

Squeezing another 7 points out to put on top of Moyes' best ever points total...with HIS players, is the very definition of getting those players to perform to a level greater than the sum of their parts.

That type of all encompassing terminology sounds good, but it doesn't stand up to any rigorous testing.
Consistency. Let's say Martinez gets 12th this season plus the dreadful season last year that's what you call consistency of achieving mediocrity. 72 league games is a long time indeed. But it's ok for that, the league is bread and butter for me but you think 5th and 15th is the same so I think our respective stand is quite clear on this issue.

Why do you talk about 'consistency' then do the very opposite in your appraisal? If you're looking for consistency in this feller's Everton career you use all three seasons he's been here.

File under 'inconvenient truth'.

7 points. Only with Lukaku rather than Anichebe. Amazing.

1st season - 5th, all time high points, out of both cups early
2nd season - 11th, meh season, out of both cups early, reached quite far in the Europa and failed in the most important moment
3rd season - probably looking at below 11th if league form is to continue, but we've reached two semi finals in the cups.

So slight progress in the cups, massive obvious regression in the league.

File under 'inconvenient truth'.

The only truth is that our defence has been a shambles since the way Moyes used to drill them wore off.
It's shown no signs of improving, and Roberto has no track record at all with regard to fixing it.

Sorry but it's time to go in the summer, regardless of what happens in the cup.

I'm not sure what sacking him at the end of the season (regardless of the Cup) achieves that sacking him now doesn't? Why keep him for another 8 weeks and then sack him? I'm sure we can cobble together some caretaker committee to get us through to the end of the season and start the recruitment process then for a new guy.

Tbh he's proven he's got the cup games read extremely well so far (and the EL games last season imo), so let him finish his job with that and move him on.

I know it sounds stupid, but for me he's nothing more than a one-off manager, and cup games are essentially that.
