Well let's look at it objectively:

Here's how many points we were off qualifying for CL play off (4th place) for the last 10 years:

2006/7 - 10 points
2007/8 - 11 points
2008/9 - 5 points
2009/10 - 9 points
2010/11 - 14 points
2011/12 - 13 points
2012/13 - 10 points
2013/14 - 7 points
2014/15 - 23 points
2015/16 - 13 points after 29 games. (-17 points predicted for full season)

No hang on wait I'm sure we were told that Martinez has got us closer than ever.

I'm sure of it.

Yep, but then you have to consider the massive dominance that a few clubs Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool had for most of the early parts of those years, and you would have to say it was tougher then than it might be now for instance to break into or get near a CL spot. Plus now many more teams have much more money so it is a far more competitive league too, you agree?

Precisely - miles off apart from two seasons.

...but now you demand it each season off relatively the same level of funding.

Staggering.

Yes if course it us a far more competitive league as I said in my earlier post.

That therefore requires greater management and coaching resource not less.

How on earth did you come up with a comparison between Hughes and Martinez?!

Hughes: wasted a fortune at City and then achieved nothing with Fulham and walked before he was sacked, then he was sacked by QPR, and now he's done nothing at Stoke.

Martinez: won a trophy at a hillbilly club spending ten bob; went to Everton and recorded a club PL points record and has us in two cup semi finals with more to come.

Yeah, 'exactly the same'...how can people not see it....*sigh*

Bang on. He's never managed to get a team relegated either

Hughes stoke record

  • Spend about the same, perhaps even less than martinez
  • Midtable finishes
  • Recorded stokes record points total
  • Cup semi final
  • Same amount of time at stoke
  • Changed their style
  • Attracted better players

So yes, whatever Martinez has done in your words, you can swap the name for Hughes and it will sound the same.

(oh, and has got his team above martinez's tram for 2 straight years as well!!!!! but i guess that part is irelevant to anything)

That davek eh, never found a straw he wouldn't clutch at

“The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."

like it or not the writing is on the wall
Keep rocking side to side and comforting yourself with that mantra mate. The outcome you seek isn't remotely on the horizon.

No David, I am saying if we wish to compete at the highest levels we can only do so by improving our management and coaching resources. Moyes could never do it (we both agree there) and Martinez is even less capable of doing it in a more competitive environment. Thus he regrettably has to go.

Unless we are happy to remain also rans ?

^^^ a comparative study worth continuing whenever Hughes notches up 72 points in the PL or ever actually wins anything.
