How do you think Moyes would have done with the same amounts of money bearing in mind the rise of transfer fees where a scott dann is valued at £20mil and Mori £9.5mil.

Also look at the players we had then + the ages. Moyes would also have had to do a major clearout....

Style of play has changed also as has the wave of youth signed in a short period.

Mori adapting
Stones and barkley developing
deulofeu developing
lukaku slated massively and now hero
besic and mccarthy both young
Galloway too

I couldnt see moyes signing the same calibre of player who are still 5+ years away from their peaks in most cases....

not in this timeframe and he never did in 11 seasons.

Moyes signed better players than all the players that you list bar Lukaku. Lescott and Jagielka actually were phenomenal and were of a better quality than anything Mori has yet shown. Arteta was miles better than any midfielder we have right now. Baines was world class under Moyes. Stones was bought by Moyes. Cahill, Yakubu, Johnson and Fellaini were all good players who never required excuses to explain consecutive bottom half finishes.

Moyes didn't manage to finsish below 8th place at a time when he didn't sign a first team player for two and a half years, and when we were repeatedly bottom of the net spend league. The idea that Martinez is at anywhere near the same disadvantage that Moyes was just because he has actually been given 10's of millions to spend, and because the playing field has now been levelled, is totally preposterous.

I dont care how Moyes would have done, nor do I care how Vitor would have done, we do not have to imagine a world in which Martinez takes us from 6th to 12th, cos its a reality we are currently balls deep in Zatman.
What's the red cross avatar for goat?

Needs to grovel like he's never grovelled before to try and convince Lukaku to stay.
He can sign better.

The lad couldn't trap a bag of cement before playing for us; RM made him into an attacker with European elite after his signature. He can buy and polish another rough diamond.

If there is a massive transfer pot it's a massive gamble giving it to Martinez.

He might not be round long enough to bear the fruits if results continue the way they are.

Stop making Martinez out to be better than he is. He is as you know bombing massively.

It's a results industry, his results suck! I imagine a few more defeats away from getting potted, despite Bill's apparent crush on him as Bill doesn't call the shots anymore.

I think most would see him as a safe pair of hands on that score. Give RM £40M net of cash and we'll see it triple in value in a couple of seasons.

Better in the market place than Moyes, and he was good too.

Maybe in an alternative Universe, but not on planet earth.

No doubting he could get a few decent buys in, just a shame he can't get them to function as a working team.

Nowhere near the standard of Moyes yet and well you know it Mr wind up :)

You don't have confidence that the guy who convinced Lukaku to sign for us twice couldn't pull off the same trick with another player in the event Rom or other players leave?

No. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Martinez's track record with signings is bad at all, but with our league placement now and the track record of failure as a manager, his days of attracting the Lukaku's and Deulofeu's of this world are over.

We need a manager with pedigree to spend the money we have. Martinez is not that manager.

I'd describe it as mutual respect and loyalty. As any sensible person would. McGargoyle though - clever feller that he is - feels it'd be a good idea to insinuate an improperly close relationship, perhaps even of a physical nature.

That cant be right, surely?

Indefensible from a BBC editor.

You're clutching at straws there

Come again?

Dont think you followed the beginning of this.

Other than the players ALREADY sold what value was left in the squad other than the defenders left by Moyes and Mirallas who Martinez could have flogged?

In the entire squad what, 4 perhaps 5 of them? Thats poor.

Barkley and Stones werent rated at those amounts when Moyes left were they? They are valued at those amounts and possibly more because of the last 2.5 seasons where they have been developed.

Yes if Martinez hadn't come in Barkley and Stones wouldn't have developed at all

In his time here Martinez has shown he can do what Moyes did (buy qulaity dirt cheap) but more than that he can buy huge and it's still an invstment.

Moyes did the cheap stuff over time, credit where it's due. But Martinez has proven more of a wheeler dealer across the price range in the time he's been here.
