Take moyes out of the picture.

There is not enough money to compete with the top 4...people want to finish 5-7th and are happy with that.

Im not...i want to see us finishing top 4 regularly. To do this you need to be innovative like atletico and depor before them as well as even villereal. Same in other leagues. Take a hit short term to build something different to take on the top sides.

Its clear this unfinished squad has the POTENTIAL to do that.

The hate filled anger from some posters demanding 5-7th is just a bit odd for me. I expected 8th this season and the way its gone 8th or 9th if expect.

Thats just realism.

You do know this post is just utter ridiculous.

The foundations were on place for him to crack on and build on it. So in your theory you want to 6 steps back to hopefully end up where we started when we arrived.

The football on offer coupled with the results and overall performances prove that we are way behind when we started his regime

Utter madness.

I've not read anyone saying they want to finish fifth to 7th (rather than higher). I've seen some express it as a minimum expectation. That's fair enough given the quality of the squad.

Im nof mentioning his tactics, merely that the squad is being developed and developing well.

Martinez didnt really have a solid core of quality dd he other than the defence which isnt able to play the way ee need them to under his system...

In my opinion hes built from the front and now will turn to the back.

How long would you give him to build from the back and what are your expectations for next season mate.

But I don't know what you are seeing that gives you so much hope.

For us to become top four contenders we need to learn to defend. Somehow, this defence, which is one of the worst at home in Europe, has to drastically improve and become good, for us to be top four contenders.

Having looked into Martinez's managerial history there is absolutely nothing, zilch, that leads me to believe that he is capable of building a good defence. I mean, I think it is fair to judge someone over 7 years in the Premier League.

So what in his managerial locker, leads you to believe that he will turn us into a side that can both defend and attack (emphasis on defend)? Please enlighten me and give me some good examples of when he has managed to turn around a struggling defence? I would love to see you try.

Obviously there is something that I am missing.

If I could truly see him turning around the defence and making us a consistent side I would say fair enough and back him. But for that to happen, I and many other blues need more than just blind faith. We need some evidence that points to the fact that he is capable of turning this around and for that to happen the defence needs to massively improve.

Bang on the money!

Someone said he should be given more dough to get a class defender in, but he paid £9m - a sum not to be sniffed at - for Mori and, also got Galloway....And despite those mentioning his eye for a player because he was after Stones before moyles - Well he's inherited Stones.

And look at the state of the defence?

The defence? Martinez'd be better off pleading diminished responsibility AFAIC.

Thats the thing though, hes stuck with the GK and Defence and only replaced Distin with Mori so far.

He should be given the opportunity to improve this and the GK areas...then we can see for ourselves.

Mori and Stones arent the finished articles either so need patience....

He was after Stones when at Wigan, so there's no excuse there. Stones has played often enough, now

He persevered with Howard for far too long. He knew what Robles was about but chose to stick with someone who was obviously costing us games.

He inherited one of the meanest defences in the land, rid us of the weakest link, and added a £9m player to it. £9m was an awful lot, and still is - despite mosher's £millions.

Yes he should, partic the goalkeeping one, because he's mulling over it a while.

Since JAN 2015 in fact.

What a dynamic go-getter....
