No of course it doesn't and most home fans understand this. However, to suggest fans should give unwavering optimism is naive, if not crass.
Are fans happy with the current atmosphere? Is it what they desire? No. Yet, the atmosphere induced by the fans is directly linked to our fortunes.
Watching four wins at home in the league in a calendar year isn't very inspiring. Nor is regularly seeing slow, insipid football being produced.
Yes you may argue that a positive atmosphere could help fix this, but people have paid to be entertained. They've paid to want to see Everton win.
Unfortunately, it is fair to argue that the manager and the players (the latter maybe due to the former) are not currently offering either of those.
So it's not realistic for fans to become slowly but surely frustrated and disillusioned by this? This isn't in the short-term now; it's a long term effect.
Or would you rather people simply pay good money and just sit their with little emotion or fake enthusiasm? Sorry, that's not for me.
We may be in a vicious cycle and the fans can do their part to fix this, but so can the manager and the players. It's not a one way thing!
