Such is the influx of cash into the Pl in the last two or three seasons what Martinez has spent has meant only that relative to all other clubs we've either just maintained where we were with regard to former activity in the transfer market or even fallen behind.

"It's the Tv money's fault" he protested.

So, we've had:

The board
The fans
The players
The officials
The programme vendors
The pitch dimensions
The material of the goal nets
The temperature of the water for the showers
The doctor's strike
Storm 'Katie'

And now it's the TV money

I may have made one or two of them up, but you're rapidly running out of increasingly desperate excuses. I wouldn't be surprised to see you use one of the more outlandish ones above (or similar) in the not too distant future. Anything but martinez.

The ONLY reason teams are passing us is martinez's woeful mismanagement. THAT'S the 'inconvenient truth' , mister. You don't get your 72pts with a pile o' cack, then - with the same players, plus a few more of your own - struggle to reach a total of 25pts LESS for the entire season AND blame it on other clubs spending money like it's going out of fashion.

Leicester look like they can achieve 72pts within the next three games, they haven't broke the bleedin' bank.

There is a good chance the 2016/17 season will start with Roberto Martinez as our manager. If he wins the FA Cup I would say it's nailed on he will stay.

But that in itself doesn't mean he will get the whole of next season. If he is backed in the summer, I would imagine that it would come with a caveat concerning league position.

Whether the target is Champions league I'm not sure, much will depend on how much money he is given. The more money, the greater the expectation. I think Moshiri would expect us to be in the mix for European Qualification through the league.

If we carry this seasons league form into next season and we are well of the pace by Christmas, or probably even earlier, I think a decision would be made to remove him at that point.
Agree with this forecast. We get badly beat in the semi, I think he could go at the end of the season. But if we win the FA...is anyone seriously going to call for his sacking in the summer after he brought us our first silverware in 20 years? If we win the FA (and that is a huge IF), he has to be given the summer and the opening of the following season to show he can progress in the league. I think there is all sorts of ways this can be structured as real pressure not a carte blanche: he could be asked to review and sack members of his coaching staff; he could be asked to put together a team to work on defense (Wenger did something similar). Moshiri might feel that the summer is too soon to exert his authority, especially if Martinez has the goodwill of a trophy. I think sacking a manager after he wins us something and ends a 20-year trophy drought lacks class. It's a real Chelsea move and I believe we are different (I know some on here think we need to stop being so "nice," but I like the way we honor our history and support those who have brought us success).

We capitulate in the derby and the semi OR just the semi and I'd want him gone. And I'll come on here and state it. We get to the final, I'll see how we perform, but I would not be surprised or disappointed if he were to get sacked if we don't win a trophy. He wins and I'll be shocked and disappointed if we fire him. As I've said, he would still need to acknowledge and account for our disappointing league performances over the last couple of seasons. And in the event he was given the start of the next season, I'd be hoping for signs that structural changes have been made to address his squad's continued inability to defend. The season is not over. I'm trying to withhold judgment until all the chips have fallen.

@davek I'm not sure how you could argue with this paragraph

Bravo @Whistlin' Dixie ;)

Me neither.

btw is it now only me, @davek, and @BlueToff who don't want him sacked on here?

Maybe. Dunno.

But I think a lot of blues want him to succeed, but based on the body of evidence, many feel he does not have the ability to do so.

Dave made an excellent point, which I accepted, and that was that Martinez seems to be being judged against targets that other managers have not been.

So, fair enough. See what this season actually turns up. Hand him a budget, (he has mainly bought well), and set a realistic target.

We have all seen what he can do. And also his annoying tendencies. Put him under pressure, and see. Think he has justified that. Just.

He can walk, for me. Might even save a few shillin' :dodgy:

I'm still waiting for his argument to this...

Don't hold yer breath Tommy. I've had a fair few questions I'm still waiting for an answer to.

Hand him a budget,

Why? Not as if he's had NO money. Has he had a barren window up to now? We used to have loads of them. He's bought good players but they're all individual. Martinez really ought to have moulded them into a team by now.

Because he hasn't, I see no reason to believe that he will in future.
