the thing is mate how can we be slagged off and criticised for judging a manager by the standards he actually set himself to be judged by? see the paradox of the matter?

He himself reminded us that as a club with out history we should aim for and demand more than just plodding along safe but nothing special, for the bar he set himself and asked us to judge him on effectively he has fallen way way short, and i agree as a fan base we for far too long for one reason or another have just settled for being this nice gentleman club - contracts for life for players and staff if they want them, accepting the role as plucky little everton

he made the rod for his own back mate, motives and his ambition is to be lauded, but if you set yourself up to do something - you need to achieve it or else you can't hold anyone else to blame for the consequences
...by the way: all things Moyes said when he first came in. In fact, Moyes used to say that there's no reason why we shouldn't win the title. It's not making a rod for your back, it's just the usual stuff any manager coming into Everton has to say. It's not a testament to be thrown at anyone to keep their job when they dont get top 4 or win the league.. That's just daft.

You see: no one can answer that fundamental question of why this feller has to be judged by a criteria hitherto not faced by Everton managers. As said - there is no answer to it. It doesn't exist.

That all any of us want mate him to be judged by the same criteria that previous managers were judged by,Everton did exist before Moyes and Martinez

This 72 points palaver needs to be turned RIGHT in....if 5th & 15th are deemed the same then the 72 has zero meaning whatsoever...none.

The only thing gained from it was a convoluted sense that we may be a team on the up in the division..

We're not.

72 points is the mark to reach and surpass. That's why it's important. It cannot be demeaned. The team that run in 21 wins and that points total dont deserve your derision...and I bet you weren't demeaning it when that season was ongoing.

Disagree there my son. Mr Martinez would definitely have been given his cards if old man Moores was still in charge.

Well up to this point there hasn't been that type of cash that gives us the edge whereby a manager failing to meet the higher expectations that go with it are seen as vulnerable. The future might hold that prospect again, but right now, no.

....no mate but as a point of argument it's ultimately useless, you effectively say so yourself by suggesting numerously that there is no difference between 5th & 15th in the 'super-dooper Barclays prem'...ergo, it achieved NOTHING.

Was nice like.

No use saying continually it achieved nothing when it now becomes the measure of every Everton team seeking to actually achieve success in this league.

It's like saying to an athlete that their personal best time is useless to them because they didn't win a medal. But the only way to win one is to improve themselves, and that means to improve their own time - then the medals will follow.

I have a feeling a lot of people would still see 6th as stagnating. And with Romelu's impending exit, there would be a lot of nervy fans as there is now. A cup may have been Roberto's only way of winning us over this season.
I wanted him gone from the start. Half way through his first season I was looking like a right divvy but I kept telling them this isn't the real Bobby, wait till things need to change and he does nothing. My friends think I'm a bloody genius now.

Last thing this thread needs is more blummin metaphors ;)

The best that can be said for this is that our lads get a taster for the pitch with April 23rd in mind.

That said, that owl face loser should sub them at HT. Dont want any injuries playing for these Crusader tits.
