I think there is an incontrovertible truth that both pro and anti-Martinez camps can agree upon: our League campaign has been underwhelming.
Further, I think the whys and wherefores of such require scrutiny.
The blue-tinted glasses we all possess have absolved some of the playing squad from fault in our scratchy performance. R Martinez cannot hold their hands out there on the pitch. I suggest players like Coleman and Baines are playing pretty bang average. I suggest Jagielka is no captain. I suggest Cleverley and McCarthy are under-equipped to utilise the space created by Barkley (who's boss) being so closely marked.
Our team isn't really as good as we think it is.
But R Martinez keeps publicly proclaiming them are all phenomenal, world class.

Guess what Roberto?...they aren't...and his set up/tactics exposes this reality on an all too frequent basis.
In many ways, his hyperbole is the architect of his own possible downfall...
...because I think he genuinely believes it.

Hubris/nemesis.

;)

...without any....ANY shadow of doubt.

Which is infuriating as that very streak of utter stubbornness and wayward belief suggests that he will never be equipped to change his mindset on it...his teams will ALWAYS revert to type because, ultimately, so will he...

Exactly. "Young and still learning" is a load of absolute faeces. He's been a Premier League manager since 2009 and evidently hasn't learned a thing, why do people think he'll suddenly start now?

...it's weird though innit mate, if anyone thinks for a single, solitary second that RM's position hasn't been discussed on the top branch of the big tree then they're sorely misguided. If the MOSH has been peeping for 18 months - as has been mooted - do people honestly think he's not been paying attention? How odd is that? 'Man throwing potential multi-millions at club happy to embrace abject mediocrity...' Yeah?

Nah.

Well, according to @davek :"In reality our club preoccupies itself day to day with matters quite unrelated to any fanciful notions of managerial change"

So there you go; straight from the horse's mouth.

Investing over 100 million in Everton requires the forgoing of usual investment paradigm. To suggest otherwise would be "fanciful notion"

You instantly raise a thread to a better standard and I applaud you Sir.

*applauds

On large i agree mate, but i think in terms of some players, the issue is lack of competition for them so the complacency has crept in over the past couple of years. Even Baines recently dropped is back in the team for largely no reason given other than to reinstate him.

It wasn't the players fault we were 2-0 up v west ham with 10 men and he subbed a midfielder for a forward. Mismanagement at it's best and nothing to do with lack of competition.

Or he's looked at us and decided he sees progress beneath the surface and won't interfere with managerial decisions for awhile. Can't help but feel he's not come here thinking it's his job to change the philosophy of the side. He agrees with that I'd assume or he'd taken his investment elsewhere.
But it's interesting that people have worked out that he's studied the club and decided to invest despite thinking the manager is incompetent and there being a board in place who appears to support him

Individually that is true yes. Same as under Moyes where our biggest weakness was fearing the other team no matter if they were tamworth or the league champions.

But overall you look at the squad and see the likes of Coleman / Baines / McCarthy / previously howard and see they have no real competition. Oviedo displaced Baines and then out of nothing, Baines was back again. Coleman has no-one behind him to challenge, McCarthy and Barry start if both are fit, neither play for their place. It can lead to lapses in concentration because they know if they misplace a few passes, next week they are still in the team, whereas Besic / Stones / Deleufeu / oviedo/ Mirallas (before west ham) were dropped even if in form.

What's your reason for thinking it might? Have you seen him change his ways recently?
He's brought in Mori, introduced Cleverley, given Barry a key role, introduced Lennon, finally dropped Howard.
All decisions you may not agree with but I'd argue were designed to tighten us up.
