If we'd lost against Rapid back in '85 we would have been ultimately unsuccessful in that competition, but people would still remember, and talk about the games against Bayern as being huge. The semi was actually a bigger game than the final. Admittedly if we hadn't gone on to win it, the memory would be a bit bittersweet, but you only win finals by getting to them, which means winning the semi.
Maybe I'm jealous because I couldn't go to the final but I wouldn't swap being at Goodison for that Bayern game for any trophy win

So your answer to statistics that people have proven are consistently a highly accurate indicator is to just display the stats.

Here's another corker for you.

51 goals scored in 29 games.

Of which we've scored 4 vs Newcastle [2 games] , 6 vs Sunderland [1 game], 7 vs Villa [2 games]

so 17 goals of the 51 - 33% of the goals - have been scored in a sixth of the games. Massively skwiffed, flat track bullying - the entertainers, as long as you're in the bottom three. 34 goals in 24 games for the rest, not really as stellar.

But you want stats? 21 wins in 67 games are all the ones we really need.

He'd be a huge letdown in this league. He wants way too much time on the ball to deliver and he has a serious lack of real pace. It would be a car crash of a signing.

Right before, er, defending the player in question, Aiden McGeady, for little or no reason.

3 of the bottom 4.

Yay..

Spot on, it was a massive moment in our history, and though it wouldn't have been as massive long term if we'd lost the final, it would still have been something that Blues would have remembered all their lives. Sadly the under-30's don't seem to think that way. Nods in Chico's direction

That's how you get decent goal differences, don't lose by much when you do lose and win comfortably when you win. As the article says it has hardly ever been wrong over a season. And when it has it proved accurate for the following. If you've found the one exception then they probably need to know

Probably because everyone under 30 was in Primary School or in many cases not alive the last time we won a trophy

If it makes you feel any better, I may well be dead before we win our next one !

Unless Martinez pulls his finger out and manages to win a couple of games at Wembley, which he may well do.

Not really - you've done us all another huge favour. Even from the article;

And if you're +10 but in 12th place, you are considerably underachieving by about four or five places.

You've actually managed to link an article that shows that, relative to goal difference, Martinez's and this Everton side are underachieving. Amazing stuff, you're actually doing it for us.

And will either end up closer to the top by the end of the season or improve next.
Then again they may not because no statistic is proof that anything is going to happen. But I know where I'd be placing my cash after reading it.
