Roberto Martinez discussion

Optimistically perhaps but nevertheless in 2 seasons these guys could be very good:

Keeper - Zero

Defence - Garbutt/Galloway/Mori/Stones/Coleman (perhaps Holgate Browning and Kenny)

Midfield - McCarthy/Barkley/Besic/Deulofeu/Cleverley (perhaps Ledson and a few more)

Forwards - Lukaku

It seems to me that adding by a keeper and someone to compete with Lukaku we could have really strong depth.

The Yarmolenko hunt would be fruitful if we can get him but we also need those other 2 positions filled....then we can start talking top 4.

We must be doing something right..

Stones Galloway Coleman McCarthy Barkley Rom Geri Kev Baines.
Most would walk into top 4 squads.

Utter state of this eyesore.

Hold on tinkerbelle,

A-- Garbutt is England u21 left back, lets see how he looks next summer before judging him.

B-- You really honestly think BOTH Galloway AND Stones will be sold within 12 months?

C-- Kenny/Holgate i used the word "perhaps" as I also did with Ledson, don't you think Ledson will come through?

Bit negative today arent you?

Utter state of this eyesore.

I assume you're on about me?

Funny how what i wanted and hoped for is happening isnt it...bringing in top young players and also developing the youth...alot of these kids with Unsworth have great reputations.

I can only assume that you preferred Moyes approach of almost never signing young players, nor giving any of the kids from the youth sides a real chance...

He's said the words young 195 times, youth 197 times and kids 65 times on this here forum, minus those in deleted threads and posts.
Scary

Funny thing is, moyes signed Shedloads of young players. He also gave chances to a lot more of our youth players.

The problem was that he didn't trust them enough to keep them in the team regularly, something Martinez sees very differently.

The idea of Martinez having this totally different approach to trying to reach the top by buying Young players to get better is hilarious. Everybody does that. Spurs and southampton fans are saying the exact same things we are about the young players they've got. Liverpool fans will insist Gomez, origi, ings, Ibe etc are as good as our lot. I hope his plan works but let's not pretend it's revolutionary.

May not be revolutionary but it is right for a club like Everton

I completely agree. It's the only way we'll ever get anywhere.

I just think it's funny that some people talk about the young players we have as if we've somehow found the secret to success. We've been buying young players and using our own youth for years. Arteta, Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka, Fellaini, Yakubu, Baines etc were all 20-24 when we brought them in. The problem has always been trying to get a load of them that peak at the same time. We're going to face the same problem with this crop, in that as soon as Galloway hits his peak, Baines and Jags will be past it. If Ledson or Davies or Walsh become top players, it will be at a time when even McCarthy is past his best. It was ever thus.

The time element is important, yes. Martinez does give younger players more time than Moyes did to find their feet and that is a major distinction. But it's wrong to suggest that Moyes was a manager who gave youngsters a go in the way Martinez has and that it's just down to how long he leaves them in for. Moyes was here 11 years and never gained a reputation for being anything but over cautious with academy players. Let's put it this way: if Martinez is here as long as Moyes was he'll have introduced comfortably more young players to first team football than Moyes was willing to do in his time. There was a reluctance and misgiving in Moyes where that age group was concerned where there's eagerness to the point of prioritising their introduction with Martinez.

Chalk and cheese they were over this issue. There's no continuity (as you suggest) whatsoever.
