Roberto Martinez discussion

So he creates something then he is sacked as he doesn't get instant success

I believe to build something you need time, and for some reason RM is being given little or no time.
I believe this as I still feel people are not willing to take a leap of faith, simply people still want the tag of plucky Everton

Also it annoys me that for some reason people can find criticism in what RM has built, people talk about it being the best squad we have had. I hear we don't get the best out of it, what people never mention the squad is built around potential and potential needs time.

I do despair at times
We don't have time tho
If we finish the bottom half again do you think Stones, Lukaku, Barkley, Deulefou, Coleman etc will stay? I despair for you if you do

Why should we be happy, after years of having no money, we spend to build a better squad for us to be struggling in mid table

I really hope we see the best of this squad cos it really does excite but however you look at it, we need them to click quickly or it either he or the players will be gone

Oh and having been going the game since 82 and being brought up on that era, "plucky everton" winds me the [Poor language removed] up

A good point made there he is not getting the best out of the players we have.
He has got a good squad together but he cannot seem to pick the right team.
Naismith should never start especially out left.
We need to split the barry/mcarthey partnership up as well,i would like to see jimmy mac have more license to go forward.

But McCarthy just isn't very good at going forward or engaging in attacking and creative play.

I agree with those saying stuff like we need at least three or four additions if we want to compete for top four. However some people have difficulty accepting which positions need strengthening. At the moment it is left wing, central midfield, goalkeeper and attack.

Tom Cleverly is not going to be good enough to get you top four, neither is McCarthy in midfield, Howard is a joke, and we need a striker to compliment and compete with Lukaku. We will remain at the same level Moyes had us competing at for years unless these players and positions are improved upon.

Mccarthy is good enough to get us to the top 4.
What is holding him back is his partnership with barry its too defensive minded.
We need to create more chances and take the shackles off.
I think every team in the prem would say another 4 quality signings would make them into a top 4 team.
We actually got there with a threadbare squad and marcus bent leading the line anything is possible.
We have the players now who could get us there the manager just needs to find the right way to make it happen

Still only lost 2 games out of 9 though. Perspective. Out of interest how many points do you think we should have taken from those fixtures for you to consider it a success?

Whichever way you dress it up, it's still 5 points out of 15.

I would have fully expected us to beat Liverpool at home so I guess just a couple more points and it could have been considered a success.

And before you say "but we never beat them usuallly"...yes I appreciate that, but this current side should have been well capeable.

RM got a record breaking season out of Moyes' squad...the next season he was vilified for 'wasting a decent squad bequeathed to him by Moyes'. The past 12 months, by use of transfer windows and promoting youngsters, he's built what's now described as a very good squad, better than we've ever had...but is charged with not being able to realise their potential - after a very handy start to a difficult opening 9 games of the season.

This is the stuff that gets trundled out as serious comment/criticism. It astounds me.

No, we missed an opportunity against Liverpool, we should have beaten them you are correct. We were also lucky to get a point from WHL. So 2 points dropped and a lucky point gained, it's only 1 point difference.

I think we are steady, no better or worse, I was expecting worse after last season so I'm fairly content at the start we have had. The next games like you say will probably tell us more.

It's all fine margins mate, let's hope we are in the top 6-7 after the Christmas fixtures to give us a good chance going into the second part of the season.

We all want him to succeed, he has the tools at his disposal, but so do other clubs, let's hope we get a bit of luck and a decent run of form.

What's the deal with him and Mirallas? Have they fallen out or something? I know the fight went out of the team once we were 2-0 down but dammit, I thought he'd at least bring Kev or Geri on as a sub.

I don't think he puts out our best (available) XI on a weekly basis. Doubtless he has his rationale behind selections but I think he's a bit all over the shop. The set up mentality vs United was abject.
Yeah spot on.
United had darmain playing right back who has been their weak link lately it was crying out for gerry or kev to rip him.
