Roberto Martinez discussion

Wasn't that long ago you were correcting me on my use of the word success, when I said taking us from relegation candidates to European battlers with virtually no spend was a success... You were very, very, very, sure in that Davek way of yours, that only silverware was acceptable as success..

Its achievement, not success... hey, not my rules.

Let it go man. You were wrong to overrate Moyes but it's fine, we all make mistakes. I completely undervalued Martinez, among other things.

Just accept it and move on.

I'm not talking about Moyes mate, just Daveks absolute mindset that only silverware was success.. It was was deemed very important by him and others at the time, to the point I had to change my statement to say achievement just so we could get back on topic.

Not talking about the other guy mate, Martinez is better, end of.

11 years is different than less than 1 though.

If Martinez doesn't get us silverware in 11 years, he's a failure. Not getting any in his first go isn't necessarily a failure. Maintaining position is failure when you don't need to consolidate. When you do need to consolidate, if you can do that and maintain or improve? That is success. At least in my view.

Nah mate, your missing the point, I think Martinez is doing a great job.
I was previously, very sternly corrected by Dave that success can only be attributed to silverware when I used it for the other guy... Now he's using it himself in the same context he had a go at me over.

Everyone relax.., I'm not having a go at Martinez, or praising Moyes.

Where did I say 7th was success now?

You said

Martinez has been an unqualified success this season.

He's not won anything, so according to your previous argument, this season isn't success.
This is being pedantic. That's not the same as '7th is success for Everton'.

Let's be realistic - in a season of change, where it could've all gone horribly wrong, it hasn't. And we can still make Europe.

No, but then I never said you did.

I thought that when he was having a go at me previously, but it was important for him. Just thought I would return the favor.

Not sure where the 7th place thing has come from though.
