Roberto Martinez discussion

I fully agree that it will take time and it's a transitional season but what I find worrying is, given that theory, shouldn't we be getting better as the season goes on, not worse?

That's what happens when you have a squad which is thin and ageing.

I have had my concerns from the off and despite the October to December period when we were as good as anybody I fear I am right. My concern is his transfer dealings and his ability to work the market given his budget. He also clearly goes over the top with some of his comments. Out of the players he has given a permanent contract to, McCArthy is the only success. Kone may have been average back up and has been unlucky but Joel,ALcaraz and Mcgeady are not premiership standard. No ifs no buts, they are crap.Yet if you listen to how Bobby has spoken about ALcaraz and Mcgeady and never seen them play you would have though we had Ratcliffe and Kanchelskis back on the books the way he brags them up. You cannot kid the punters Bobby. Didn't we all laugh at the RS for them all sucking in the comments made by Rodgers last season? Never mind switching the tower lights on and visiting an old blue at Xmas, I personally would rather you find a keeper who can catch a ball. I just do not trust the guy to find bargains like Cahill, Arteta, Baines, Jags, Lescott, Coleman, etc. Very nice guy though giving Joel a run out and selling Jelavic to help him get to the WC. Unfortunately being a nice guy helps but is not the first thing I look for on a Cv. Being a nice guy does not buy you good players and good players win football matches.

I get the gist of what you are saying but would take issue with your comment "Being a nice guy does not buy you good players". That conclusion is a non sequitur.

How can you expect McGeady to deliver two months into his spell in a NEW LEAGUE, NEW TEAM and not having played football since November. He cost £500k lad, pipe down.

I haven't got a handle on McGeady yet...I haven't watched either Spartak Moscow nor Rep of Ireland and he just hasn't had enough Everton game time for me to make any assessment. We shall see I guess.

"Being a nice guy doesn't buy you players".

Kenwright LOVES this.

How about a skint chairman with a reluctance to sell doesn't buy you players.

I've really enjoyed the transformation under Martinez, don't get me wrong he was a breath of fresh air from having to endure over a decade worth of dross under that dinosaur Moyes but he needs to start taking some responsibility.

Yesterday again it was "The score line flattered Arsenal" coming in succession to "The result didn't reflect how the game was" with both Tottenham and Chelsea. It is no coincidence we lost all three as well as a vital game at Anfield.
He should be answering the real questions in we have no fire power up top at all. That was down to him. He told us he had money to spend so why not, when we are in a great position in the league and knowing we'd always have a fighting chance of doing well in the FA Cup was a striker not bought? You bring in two players from a league that finished months prior and one of them was already injured! Beyond stupid.

In addition to this with fourth all but finished last month, the FA Cup was our season in one game yesterday and he decides to field our second choice keeper! Where is the logic? As well as fielding our reserves against Fulham in the Capital One Cup! For a club that is heading into it's 20th season now without a trophy I find this absolutely unforgivable.

Yep. In January I had no problems in him selling Jelavic if he did not fancy him so long as he brought in somebody better. He chose not to buy and I fail to believe that in the whole of world football there was nobody whom he considered better. If this was the case then he shouldn't have sold. He knows the world market as he has managed to find one of the only keepers in the world who can't catch and that must have taken some finding. As for Mcgeady it is not the £500k we spent on the fee but the whole £10 mill with salary as a guess over 4 years with no resale value that I have a problem with. I have watched him for Celtic and EIRE and he is crap.If we got through yesterday and had a semi against City I believe Bobby would still have played Joel in goal. Hypothetical I know but I genuinely believe he would have. Enough said as no blue out of the 35000 who go every week would have agreed with this.

Different manager same old Everton dont create or score enough. Always bar the United result lose against the "big boys". Some of the new signings not of the required standard.

perhaps we should accept the unassailable conclusion that the "big boys" are better than us. I appreciate that this reality injection is painful, but the stats speak for themselves. Short of unearthing a Suarez quality player for around 10 million, our sobriquet 'the best of the rest' will not change.
