One thing I remember about Martinez's first season is that you felt that he saw everything we did. He'd make the right subs and if a player wasn't playing well, they'd not play 38 games a season.
That's kind of faded a bit of late. Seeing him drop Naismith and make good subs today really helped bring that back, but it's all for nought if you stand by a keeper who can't even do the basics.
Good keepers don't cost the same as other positions, though. To get a player of Cech's calibre in any other position would cost much, much more than the £10.9m Arsenal paid.
And maybe it's just me but I didn't see Robles as the Cudicini type. He's not a veteran keeper there for emergencies, he's a young keeper there to improve his game. You can't do that if you don't play. Maybe Robles is utterly crap, I don't know, but I only judge keepers when they've had a few games on the spin and Robles has had that once, and he played well. I don't see him in training though, so maybe he is actually pants and Martinez just made a bad signing. It's all speculative!
What I do know is that something needs to change. Howard's one of the oldest keepers in the league and the only thing consistent about him is his ability to frustrate us. Hopefully Roberto can (belatedly) sort this out.
