Roberto Martinez discussion

Its only hindsight because we are talking after the match, before the match everyone was saying strongest team and get the job done. The sub came after an hour of truly awful football, with Mori coming in with no problem for Jags all he had to do was cover for Barry, something he made a right meal of.

Yes we got into the next round, but we nearly went out without even getting to the lottery of spot kicks.

Not everyone was calling for the strongest team. I'd never play our strongest team vs Norwich in this competition.

We're becoming a tremendously resilient team, aside from the United game (and for understandable reasons) we've given everyone a really good game having gone behind.

It is a bad habit we have got into, though.

I can't remember the last time we scored first :(

(It was Chelsea and that seems yonkos ago :))

That's because they've used their squad properly. Robles Osman, Gibson, Oviedo, Mirallas have barely played this season. Just weren't match sharp.

thats probably something to do with 4 of those 5 being injured or returning to full fitness though. Mirallas ban also limiting his chances.

If available and fully fit, at least Kev Ossie and Gibbo would have been used more by now and there's a chance Oviedo would have had first chance to replace Baines.

Stop shooting holes in his Swiss cheese argument...there will be nothing left.

If Martinez can't go, then at least something has to give with the fitness regime - we were absolutely knackered after 70 minutes and couldn't capitalise on Norwich being rattled by the equaliser.

By contrast, Norwich seems to have its fitness regime spot on. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between Norwich in the nineteenth minute and Norwich in the one-hundred-and-nineteenth minute. They kept an amazing pace throughout.

Its basically pre-season for some of the players, match sharpness and fitness is an often overlooked thing.

Was that not the same for them?

I know that Mulumba bloke was playing his first game and they made wholesale changes from their Saturday team so their line up must have been replete with players in the same boat as the ones you name.

No, I was thinking their fitness training must be superior to ours.

I was only listening to the radio broadcast...but they did mention that towards the end of stoppage. Even Del apparently was gasping hands on knees towards the end.
And Barkley.

Think it the reason why both started off the bench and Mirallas was subbed, not quite sure why but all three can struggle to last an entire game especially if there is extra time.

Perhaps they make the most explosive sprints?

We played a relegation fodders second string team. I don't want to hear excuses. For 65 minutes Norwich retained possesion and moved the ball a lot better than us. We won 7/19 home games last season? It's simply just not good enough.

I'm happy we are in the next round, who wouldn't be. However our performances are shocking, whether we win or loose.
It's a cup run: I DON'T CARE HOW WE PLAY AS LONG AS WE DON'T GET KNOCKED OUT.

....After a win that gets us into the QFs of a cup. (shakes head)
