Roberto Martinez discussion

I thought as a mid table side we did decent today. Spurs are a cut above us and then some so we did well to keep it as tight as we could and gained a point from a top side.

Deffo looked to me like we have practised a defensive unit for at least 3 days and deffo worked on our corners because we should have scored from one.

Would have took a 0-0 beforehand so ain't too disappointed with a 1-1. That result is probably worse for Spurs chasing a CL spot than us just looking to secure 8th to 11th.

So ultimately, in order to have a goal scoring centre forward you need a ghost player to run around infront of him but it doesn't matter if he gives the ball away EVERY time he gets it and doesn't track back particularly well as once he's dragging a player away from lukaku?

Nonsense

What are you talking about now mate?

I've said he holds the ball up, he links well with Lukaku, he has scored goals, he has assists, he isn't the long term solution.

But I've said that his inclusion is one that, whilst some may disagree, is understandable because of the above factors.

I have no idea where "ghost player" has come from.

Get in the bin.

I think the strategy has some sense, having Kone on has provided Lukaku with some extra space and also someone who will link with him and play one twos in and around the box. However it hasn't worked that well the last few games, and today we rarely saw Lukaku and Kone combine. What Kone did provide was an outlet for the clearance out with his hold up play, however his passing was crap today which contributed to the pressure we came under first half.
Perhaps time to give someone else a go there, Kev or Clev.

All of the above happened in one match, he's been muck before that and since.

Martinez commented during the week about him being very important for moving defenders around to create space for lukaku.

You commented that he's very important to lukaku and is part of us scoring goals including today even though he wasn't part of it?
I don't get that at all. We have much better options than him.

You've misunderstood.
I said he wasn't directly involved in today's goal but is part of a forward line that is scoring goals and therefore, until we stop scoring goals, his inclusion will continue to be worthy of debate.

If you think we have better options then fair enough. Who?
Cleverley?
Mirrallas?

Both good players who offer a different variation on the left hand side role.

Is Kone going to beat players like Kev does? No. Is Kev going to hold the ball up and releave pressure on the defence? No. Is Kev going to play quickly and assertively when passing like Clev'? No. Does Clev offer the goal threat of Kev or Kone? No. Does Kone have assists and goals to his name this season? Yes. Does Clev? 1 and 1 (less than Kone).

We could go on and on. they all offer different things. It's worthy of debate.

Fair enough.

But we looked much more balanced when cleverly went left and besic stepped in centre. Everything breaks down with kone, he's just not good enough.

I agree that we looked better when Clev went left but let's not forget we brought Deu on too who made a huge difference.

I do think Kone is good enough as a stop gap. To me the manager has to make LW a priority along with RB and GK in the summer. Until then I'm ok with Kone or Clev.

He's clueless when it comes to setting up a team, today he made Spurs look like Bayern in the first half because he started the wrong 11 playing the wrong tactics.

He's played Kone for 2 months solid and drags him off every game when he's crap again, all he does is breakdown 15 attacks for us a game, leaves the leftback hung out to get mullered, he did it to Galloway, he's doing the same to Baines.

We've actively seen teams targeting our left side week after week, Stoke did it, Spurs were doing it today.

Bench Kone you Spanish clown, bring defence aswell as attack to the flanks, you have the players, pick the right team FFS.
What about the bit where he made changes in the second half and took the game to them?

Does that not count? Hahaha.

Was you one of them giving England international John Stones coaching from the Park End hot shot?

He's still right though Chico, Kone offers sod all balance so as a fan Martinez is allowed to be called out for it. He made subs today and they worked which is great but the balance was bullshine with Kone in the side. He didn't even play that bad today but the left side was just left wide wide open all game and that's our little cheeky Spanish mangers fault.

Spurs could have been out of sight in that first half, all down to Bobby picking a crap unbalanced team.

He always had Gerry to come on, no great shakes that obvious sub, he made two subs early because he'd got it badly wrong from the off, Besic should have started in the middle, and Cleverly should have been in Kone's birth.

If he'd done that it would have been a totally different first half, bad selection, bad tactics, bad formation, rescued it 2nd half.

I don't reckon Kone is as bad as is being made out mate. He's as usual the latest appointed scapegoat who happens to be not be in the best of form.

He's certainly not indicative that Martinez has lost the plot. Didn't work so he fixed it. I'd obviously wish he would start someone else and I reckon Cleverley will get a run there as Martinez has an aversion to two out and out wide men.

But they weren't out of sight and had to rely on a goal just on half time to even be level?

It's great you can see it but he can't.

Agreed Kone is nowhere near as bad as anyone ( and me I lob in that basket ) makes out but we do know with him taking a holiday on the pitch every time he plays he does numerous things without meaning it

1. Mirallas is sitting there scratching his balls looking At the back of Bobbys head and thinking " I just want to Web u everywhere u blag tit of a manager"

2. Kone offers nothing there

3. Any left back we choose Is left to look like a complete scruff because he's left open. I'm.shocked that Galloway hasn't asked for counciling for being left exposed for a good rogering the past few games he's played and Baines is no different.

Aye fair points as usual mate. Mirallas has disappointed me as he's never really played well enough when given a chance this season to stake a claim and instead we read comments about him maybe having to move on. With the talent he has he should get his head down and make himself one of the first picks but seldom does that.

Surprised we haven't seen Galloway at left back and Baines at left mid so far. Maybe that's me being a bit FIFA though and it wouldn't work for loads of reasons.
