Roberto Martinez discussion

It's also not Roberto's fault that the league as a whole has become very close. Anyone can beat anyone and its made for some truly odd results this season. I find it hard to believe that Moyes would still have us top 6-7 with little more attacking nouce than bang it up to a large lad or ENGAGE the bainaar !!

LOL

What a load of utter nonsense.

We have 5 of the most talented young players in Europe and 1 of the best strikers in the league, ignoring your Moyes talk, I know for a FACT I could have this group of players higher than 11th.

It's laughable, how through the past few hundred pages of this thread, the list of excuses that have been utilised...Seemingly with no end.

Have some of them yet to fathom that Martinez MAY not be up to it?

That 1 is the best tho, its not the managers fault hes managing in the toughest league in the world.

Its almost as if people are willing to ignore the 30-50m EXTRA a Season that clubs have access to with the new Sky deal.

I mean, just where do people think we got the money from to spend almost 50m in the last 5 windows.

Not sure we've spent 50m net in Roberto's time. I worked it out a few weeks ago, and it was roughly in the region of £30 million net; Still a fair amount but not huge money over 2 and a half years.

It's crazy 6 wins in 20 with this squad is not Bournemouths fault or even WBA's. Fans need to acknowledge the last 18 months haven't been anywhere near good enough....fortunately most have and even the ones still with an expectancy that even now Martinez will succeed, have noted that Ann improvement is needed quick style, statistically we are on course to win less games than last Season.

Last season we average 6 wins every 19

This 6 in 20 this far, an you'd be a brace man to say it will be any higher than 6 wins after 22.

I just hope we can keep this squad together, including the 5 youngsters you mentioned.

Whats net got to do with it? Is Barkley worth nothing because we produced him? Is stones a £3m pound player because that's what we paid for him, is Deulofeu only a £3m player also?

We are football fans not accountants.

I agree. Net spend is overrated. If you sell £300 million pounds worth of players, and buy £300 million pounds worth, then you should still have a very good team. Net spend is massively overrated, for that, and the reasons you pointed out. Doesn't mean it means nothing though, and I believe ours is closer to 30 net, than the 50 claimed.

Add the 2m we had to pay Wigan for the utter fraud, Agent fees, plus the signing on fees and massive wages for the "frees" such as The Clev, Eto'o, Gaz Baz and Aids and its easily well over 50m spent in player purchases.

Post your figures, I could do with a laugh.

But ok, lets ignore net spend.

Hes spent 80m on players and took us from 7th to 11th, which is where we are now and how we ended the last season.

Not bad.

LOL

I keep hearing this is the best squad we have had in years, and to a point it maybe.
BUT you never hear the comment this is the year everybody had the best squad they have ever had

Bournemouth just signed a forward for 10ml, the money is ther for every club and they are spending it

Our spending is around youth and potential, it will serve us well moving forward

Its not thou, some of the teams who we wanted to try and pass when we we're a top 6 side are now the worse they have been in years. Yes some of the lower half of the league might have better squads, or the middle table sides who we now compete with for places, but some of the top sides that we wanted to try and get ahead of when we were a top 8 side are lacking in several areas of the park. We have a striker that could get in any Premier League side, a center half that everyone would like, we have never been in that situation before, but we have fallen back to a team that is trying to get in the top half of the league thanks to Roberto.

I worked it out a few weeks ago, so I defo never included the swiss kid. Got a feeling I never included Barry. He would have been free to any other club in world football, and we reportedly paid a fee him. That was a brilliant move by us that. Then again, suppose it was worth it if that was what it took to get him here on loan. We could have binned him off, after all.

Still, just felt that 50 was miles away from my rough calculation at the time :)

Well its quite hard to get a proper figure due to the way deals are undisclosed, I suspect its nearer 50m than 30m tho personally.

But regardless, hes spent the money well, no complaints from me on that score.
