Roberto Martinez discussion

I'm not arsed about the players - cogs in a wheel as far as I'm concerned.

I'm concerned with Everton winning trophies and playing good football.

If we won the LC this season playing open attacking football, what else is there other than that as a season long goal?

Any team can go from relegation fodder to CL spot challengers in this league it appears now. Why on earth would you be bothered about a mundane 7th place season if you could pick up a cup instead?

If we win either the FA Cup or League Cup we get UEFA Europa League anyway btw.

But again. Still plenty of time for our current position to change.

We're a handful of points off the coveted Moyes 7th place trophy. That'll suffice for some.

If Martinez was as good a manager as certain posters believe on here then why can't he have us winning a trophy AND getting a top half finish? no one's asking for top 4 but say 7/8th and a trophy is more than capable of being achieved with the strength of this squad/no Europa League fixtures to contend with.

No mate. I think we all know we've underperformed relative to our expectations up to this point.

Mainly due to silly defensive errors and/or niggly injuries affecting the form of key players. (Mirallas - groin ; Baines ankle etc)

I think there are some indications that we're maturing now and I fully expect our form to pick up. Especially if we make signings in January as that always improves our squad's form if the incoming is a decent performer. It always gives our fans a lift too.

I think we are not out of the mix for 4th plus. We just need to win games with frequency now.

We do need silverware also.

We need to get over our silverware psychological-barrier.

Silverware should be every seasons' objective. A normality at Everton.

"I expect Kevin to have a major influence in the second half of the season."

'He's improved as a footballer and it's important for us that Kevin is fresher now going into the second half of the season and we'll get the benefit from that.'

'Kevin Mirallas is a very, very important player for Everton - he knows that. What he needs now is to get playing time because the start of the season has been frustrating for him.'

If we won a cup and finished 5th or 15th, in 10 years time nobody would remember where we finished, because we'd remember we won a trophy.

The cup is the most important this season.

Except that 5th place finish makes you more attractive to the top players, on top of extra cash for finishing 10 places up the table.

The top players no longer will sign for Everton just because we are everton (looks at Payet) the middle pack are chasing up and we can't be happy to finish alongside powerhouses like West Brom and Sunderland and expect us to keep hold of our best players/attract the Yarmolenko's of this world.

I have re-read my post twice and still cannot see the bit where I mention the cup. But since you have brought it up, I would be delighted if we win a cup but not at the expense of our league status, otherwise we will become a Wigan, Portsmouth or Birmingham and that is not good enough for me personally. Roberto has shown he knows how to play attacking and defensive football, he now needs to marry them up so that we aren't just good to watch we also have an end product.
