Roberto Martinez discussion

In fairness to them, I think they would. It would still be worth pointing out that we handed another team a way back into the game when they werent in it.

Although for me, thats just on Jags. Not the manager.

And then I could come back and say he made positive substitutions which worked as we got back in front and showed what such a good team we are to get a very good win. Which, but for some appalling refereeing, I can't say.

Performance is the most important thing to be able to get results consistently. We are producing performances and very good performances and they will reap the reward of points eventually. Our performances deserve more points and that we can all agree on but we are not quite there yet but are certainly going in the right direction. If we played the high ball to front quick like we used to then we would not be progressing in terms of longtivity, we may temporary get some better results but you know that type of football is just a toss of the coin percentage football that will get us knowhere in terms of progress.

....ok, sound.

And this is getting us where?

I'm here now. The team has got to take responsibility. We can talk about game management but the players need to step up. Gaa! Such a frustrating game. We could all be celebrating a famous victory. @ianefc believed we were going to win at 2-2 and we nearly did with that majestic by Funes (he's beginning to score, isn't he?)

This is probably the fume talking but the outrage of this could be a bit of a blessing in disguise.

For too long Martinez has been all agreeable shoes / blue suit / polite comments in the media and the team has largely been built in his image, he needs to be angrier and we need to be more evil. Swansea simply have to be battered, smashed, ground into the dirt and Brian Swan burnt in effigy.

They had Chelsea, us, Liverpool, City, Bournmouth and then spurs in a row and that was the run everyone said would see them crash and burn - they lost 1 game in that entire run and beat Spurs, us and Chelsea - 11 points out of their nightmare 6 game stretch? that in and of itself is a points schedule for top 4 mate
...so you're nailing your colours to the mast that they'll get top 4?

This thread needs locking and putting away for a long time.

Could go on for a while about Martinez but for me you can't knee-jerk after every game that we don't win. We never won today because of the linesmen/ref, simple. You cannot blame Martinez for the error in the first goal, you can't blame him for the deflection and you can't blame him for not seeing out the game because we technically did.

We're a hard team to beat. Lessons are being learnt throughout this season about how to either finish games off or turn a draw into a win. But Roberto Martinez is definitely the right man for Everton.

well they are fuming more about the overall pattern of losing points due to conceding too many goals and losing leads. I think its fair game for some moaning all things considered.

I am fully behind the manager, but I dont think its unfair for people to be complaining about the manager and our defending even if the final equalising goal shouldve been ruled out.

One thing I do see is people just generally complaining again about closing out games as if there was a failing in the tactics there. I think we were generally okay, kept a good shape in defense throughout. I'd like somebody to advise why they would think that game in particular was Martinez fault.

I think overall our biggest failing was holding on to the ball. We were very sloppy with the ball, with Ross and Besic quite poor in that aspect IMO and this killed us in a game where that Chelsea team should have been dominated by us.

They looked a bit tired really.

You just completely disregarded what I wrote. I said deflection aside. If you look back you'll see Fabregas walking through our midfield with no one moving with or around him. If our defenders stand stock still all game but Howard somehow makes a thousand brilliant 1 on 1 saves is that good defending? At that point in the game we simply lost all belief and it took a set piece to get it back. Please be impartial in your assessment.

I am being impartial. We gave up one really bad goal. One should never have counted and the other was a massive deflection. Sure we could have done better in the build up, but it was a well worked shot, and they got a lucky deflection.

Dave if you think that at this point of the season with 16 games left that United will make up a 12 point gap, west ham a 11 point gap, stoke 14 points, palace 15 points, liverpool 15 points, Saints 16 points us 17 points or Chelsea 21 points then your living in cloud cuckoo land.

who is it exactly that is going to catch and overtake Leicester out of that lot with 16 games left?

Like @davek said city arsenal spurs and united will all catch leicester i think as well.

however i think it will be the last 6 games that they freefall with injuries and tiredness due to a small squad.

So according to you predicting 60 points and us then finishing with 50 is indicative of you being bang on???
No, my expectation was cup run plus 60+ points. Half right at the moment and we'll see what happens by May with the other half.

I cant say fairer than that can I?
