Roberto Martinez discussion

I'd love to believe that in the summer we replace the goalkeeper and next season we'll be flying high. I'd sacrifice whatever place we finish this year for that.

Problem is that we all said last year was a blip (myself included) yet we've found ourselves in this position again.

We are not in "this position" again.

There is a world of difference between this season and last.

This time last year I was in despair.

Today I am filled with great optimism and no little hope.

Roll on next Sunday for the next edition of the Everton extravaganza.

I don't know whether it happens or not, but if we string 3 wins together ( I'll take 2 at this stage even) and we are flying up the table, can you imagine the excitement in here again coming into the last 3 months of the season?
We just need to catch a break in a frustrating season.

But he did, and always does, and will do again and again, if its a mistake its a mistake of his own making, for no logical reason.

Oh trust me, I know. Honestly, if he just binned Howard off and put Joel in goal I would be 110% behind him, but this ridiculous stubbornness with the keeper is just unfathomable and has me questioning his sanity.

Joel will not play in the league because we will win the League Cup and the FA Cup. He is our cup keeper. Barca did something similar with Ter Stegen.

That team was NEVER on the verge.

It was fundamentally flawed; lacking in any depth, aging and full of people who couldnt break through the glass ceiling.

Your point about this team being the best in years totally contradicts your point. All these boys can only get better; the team he inherited was at an end.

Your being very unfair.

Agreed, on the verge of what? Retirement ?

As you say that team was finished and Martinez has had to rebuild.

We're not far away from being the best side in the league. Granted, we're not far away from being the worst..

So feckin frustrating. Keep the faith blues. x
This! It's true. So maddening. Hiddink's quote about us being a wonderful team and them being lucky to get away with a point. In attack we are so deadly. I was stunned we didn't score on Wednesday and yet we're 11th and can't seem to buy a win. Something's missing. My latest flavor is a vocal leader in midfield. But whatever it is, it's torture to watch a team that seems to be able to score at will below Stoke, Palace, West Ham, and a truly terrible RS. Looking at the current standings, I'd say 5th is now out of reach let alone 4th. You just feel we are not going to go on a winning streak.

I read your post and I think of Palace being hammered by City today, 4-0. A side that's above us gets taken apart by the favourites for the league, and a team that we could easily have beaten (ok, City might have won, but still)....it's hard to work out. We really could beat anyone in the league (and not just 'on our day'), and yet...and yet....

Back in the days when i used to watch the wrestling there was a scene where Vince McMahons henchmen were arguing amongst themselves about how their master plan went wrong.Amidst all their moaning and whining Vince McMahon bellows ALL I HEAR IS A LOAD OF EXCUSES!Yes Terrys goal was offside.Yes the amount of injury time played was a disgrace but we were 2 nill up and cruising in the first half.We then scored what should have been the winner in the closing stages.Failing to close the game out and seal the deal considering the circumstances outlined above is unforgivable. We can't do anything about referees. All of that is external factors outside our control. What we can control are things like our tactics and ability to game manage and hold on to a lead and yesterday was a complete and total failure on that front. We should have won that game and as far as im concerned we have no one to blame but ourselves for messing that one up.Thank god for the run in the league cup because as far as im concerned 11th place in the league with the prospect of dropping down to 12th in the middle of January just doesn't cut the mustard for me.

All well and good, but how can you not see also that a player who was clearly offside scored to cost us a win, talk tactics and game management all you want mate, but if a player who is clearly offside is allowed to get away with it all the tactics and game management in the world won't make a difference, unless you think we should start getting tight to any player offside - thus playing them onside ofc?
