Roberto Martinez discussion

We conceded three goals yesterday

One was perhaps down to a couple of players misreading the situation

One was a big deflection

One was blatantly offside

Errors happen, so does bad luck and refereeing incompetence/manipulation

We scored three goals, how can drawing the game be Bobby's fault?

Don't have a clue if i am honest, lot would depend if we are take over and what they would want out of the club ambition wise.
Could just need a change of backroom staff or something to get it to click into place with Martinez,
I can see were he is doing good, ie bringing in young players, style of play, personally i think we need a few leaders on the pitch more than a new manager, somebody who can say , lads lets keep it tight react to situations on the pitch ect, and the rest of the team sits up and listens to them, unfortunately are senior pros , jags ,Howard,Barry, Osman arnt that type, might need to off load a few of the old guard, so somebody steps up to the job or bring somebody in to take up the mantel.
This is absolutely spot on mate.

I was listening to Baines in post match interview yesterday and he was bemoaning the fact we didn't manage the game better. Well he's a senior pro and should be doing his bit in that respect. He's got a nerve talking about it but keeping schtum on the pitch when minutes have passed by and the clock has run out on Chelsea. Where's his experience as a player getting in the ear of the ref - or the so called captain for that matter? You're bang on: there's no sense of responsibility about them at all. I hated them as players, but can you imagine the likes of Carragher or Gerrard letting 7 minutes even be played yesterday never mind the extra minute? They'd have seen 7 minutes go up on the board and been right into the refs face screaming he was taking the piss with that amount of time. Our senior pros just stand there and accept it.

That first one was Jagielka's fault. As much as Howard is a joke these days, Jagielka looked like a cart horse running after a Derby favourite...and Costa isn't the quickest either.

do you think we need another experienced centre half? out of stones ,mori and jags, mori seems the only one with that strength of character, but he's new in the premiership

not sure who we should/could get tho

I do think it is a mentality thing with the players, 2-0 up we went back towards our own box, we had the measure of Chelski from the kick off, we let them back into the game way too easily.

I just don't get it how it's Martinez fault that players lack mental strength? We didn't concede because our defensive setup was bad. We concede a goal because of stupidity of Howard and Jagielka. They let the team and manager down and made Chelsea back to the game.
It's up to the manager to instill that winning mentality in his team. That's what all the great managers do.

+ and if we shove the events that led to this result a side.... draw from stamford bridge isnt actually a end of the world.
A point at Stamford Bridge should always a decent result, but all the crap results before ruin it. 2 wins in 10, 30% win rate since the start of 2014/15. It's simply not good enough. He has to get better.

I was talking about this result alone. Anyways I get your point.

Ive said it many times before. We are a rollercoaster team atm...we are like a box of chocolades...You'll never know what you get.
Personally I believe trophy isnt far away.

It wasn't just the goals, it was the chances. The more shots you have, the more chance of a lucky deflection. The more good crosses, the more chance of an own goal. Martinez said something yesterday about the game being too open after we went 2-0, and that is down to the tactics of the two managers. We needed to play more like we did against City last Wednesday. So yes, Martinez isn't immune from criticism. But IMO there's been a lot of overreaction, and you have to ask would Martinez be getting this much flak if the third goal had been ruled offside.

I said in the post match thread the annoying thing is we are makers of our own problems the only team that has won easily against us is United and I believe the events leading up to the game contributed to that
Take the game yesterday, Barkley messes up outside our box goal, Jags and Howard do neither one thing or the other, goal and the 3rd was a case of Geri keeping the ball and running the clock down
No team is tearing us apart and I think we are so close to becoming a side that will hammer some one and so close to becoming a top side

Mori is the pick of the CBs at the moment.

I can see it being more of a necessity in the future that we bring one in as I reckon Stones is impatient to leave.

Galloway will probably get his chance before too long, but we could do with more experience than Jagielka in there as he's not the organising type.

Priority has to be the GK situation though. If we have a proper one it would help CB matters no end anyway.
