Roberto Martinez discussion

All well and good, but how can you not see also that a player who was clearly offside scored to cost us a win, talk tactics and game management all you want mate, but if a player who is clearly offside is allowed to get away with it all the tactics and game management in the world won't make a difference, unless you think we should start getting tight to any player offside - thus playing them onside ofc?

If this was the first time we gave away a winning position I'd take your point but we do it consistently. And I didn't hear Bobby talking about an unacceptable refereeing performance on Wednesday when we got away with a clear penalty. Refereeing mistakes happen and tend to even themselves out. Schoolboy defending and an inability to win games - well they are defintely down to the manager in my opinion. How can anyone defend a manager who has this group of players at his disposal, being in the bottom half and having won just 5 league games all season?

It's not just yesterday. There was Bournemouth and Stoke as well.6 league wins so far this year is very poor and nothing to write home about imo.

Well for one we have won 6 league games this season mate not 5 as you said.
OK so a mistake from Jags judging a long ball and Howard coming out ridiculously late is down to Martinez is it? Also a bad deflection on a otherwise nothing shot was down to him as well? And obviously a phantom minute of stoppage time over what was supposed to be, plus a player a yard and a half offside was also down to martinez and his poor managerial ability?
Clear pen on Wednesday? Most thought it was one yes, some didn't, show me one person who think Terry was actually onside mate? a pen is an interpretation by the ref - a judgement call, an offside is not it either IS or Isn't - no grey area their

Criticise Martinez when it's due - which this season there has been plenty of chances to if that's your thing, but to do so after yesterday just stinks of having a agenda and looking for any excuse to stick the boot in

The by all means tear a strip off him for those mate, but yesterday we should and would have won that game if it wasn't for two decisions that never should have been, we have also lost a very low number - especially away from home this season mate, the entire thing is balanced on a very thin edge atm - we could be a very very good team or we could continue as is - it depends on which side we fall on second half of the season

He's just an anonymous poster on an anonymous message board how much power and influence can he have?No matter what happens Martinez is bullet proof because the boards only ambition is to just stay afloat in the premiership and collect the tv money for themselves.

Martinez is pretty much safe unless the owners change ofc, and whilst not being his biggest supporter (especially at times last season), I am glad that we aren't looking to change him - does he deserve to be immune to criticism - nope, but should he be given the chance to show if what he is attempting to do can succeed - build a young team, keep it together and grow it so to actually challenge for things - yeah i actually do think he deserves that.

I also remember the days of Kendall and Ferguson and the only club nowadays that would still have given them the time they needed would be Everton, every other club in this country in the top flight would have sacked them before they won a thing with the starts both of them had to their Everton/Utd managerial jobs.

"Howard coming out ridiculously late is down to Martinez is it?" Yes because he continues to pick him. And because he does the whole defence looks bereft of any confidence at all.

Yes 6 wins not 5 - my bad. The same as Bournemouth and Norwich and one less than Sunderland. In fact only the bottom 4 have less wins than us.

I'm not sure about a phantom minute of stoppage time. We scored and took ages to celebrate - he was always going to add extra time for that.

And yes I do blame Martinez for not closing games out in case it compromises his principles. Keep the ball, see the clock out, it's how you win matches. There's no agenda - I'm just sick of watching this talented bunch of players fail to win a match week after week.

Who is the right man

It's a major problem for 90% of teams in the Prem
Don't have a clue if i am honest, lot would depend if we are take over and what they would want out of the club ambition wise.
Could just need a change of backroom staff or something to get it to click into place with Martinez,
I can see were he is doing good, ie bringing in young players, style of play, personally i think we need a few leaders on the pitch more than a new manager, somebody who can say , lads lets keep it tight react to situations on the pitch ect, and the rest of the team sits up and listens to them, unfortunately are senior pros , jags ,Howard,Barry, Osman arnt that type, might need to off load a few of the old guard, so somebody steps up to the job or bring somebody in to take up the mantel.

The point is getting to the final doesn't mean anything unless you win it but carry on with your patronising comments if you want to.
Surely getting to a final is an achievement, you can't just brush that over
If you take into account beating City over 2 legs, it is a very good achievement

Winning it is the goal, but don't underestimate the achievement in getting tbere...if we do

I have said for a while now any manager we look at is a gamble, as simply the top managers don't look at Everton.
I totally agree with the leadership on the pitch as it is no secret we have nobody barking orders and motivating players through difficult periods in the game.
I love the way we are bringing young hopefull players to the club, but this brings its own problems in respects of discipline in the pitch. We have passages of play were we should concentrate on keeping a shape about us, we don't we try to play football in dangerous areas and this leads to us putting pressure on ourselves. I know RM wants us to play football but he doesn't want us to create our own downfall, if we had these leaders on the pitch I think a fair amount of this would be cut out.
I think McCarthy could be a good captain, but we need other leaders as well
Still deflated over yesterday

I just don't get it how it's Martinez fault that players lack mental strength? We didn't concede because our defensive setup was bad. We concede a goal because of stupidity of Howard and Jagielka. They let the team and manager down and made Chelsea back to the game.

We need time and experience to become a winning team. Last year we were losing too many games and now we're drawing too much. If it's not a sign of a progress then how would you call it?

We're in a good hands, we're safe and we're progressing. Slowly, but we're moving forward in the right direction.

People are afraid we'd need to sell Stones and Lukaku after we won't get Europe. Even if we do that then so what? They're not the only players in the world and Bobby's doing a very good job at the transfer market. He made them a great players which draws attention of big clubs. You think other young players and their agents won't notice that? His job is to improve the players he has at his disposal and he's doing it very well.

We will be a strong team in the future. I have no doubts about that.

Good post mate. Everyone sees that progress is being made with this team. The development will continue apace, players (especially a GK) will be added that can help us even more, and we'll kick on in the future. No one in their right mind wants this to be derailed.

We've never had a manager like this since Kendall the way he sets up and takes the fight to the opposition. You're seeing some of the best football for over two decades played by Everton. The players' mental frailties will be ironed out (and that, by the way, also includes having the stature and presence on the pitch to go after errant officials who are clearly taking the piss and denying us points...we need that player naivety sorted asap).
