Roberto Martinez discussion

Wasn't he? I'd definitely argue that was the case.

Adding Lukaku and Deulofeu to it since in particular has definitely made it the best squad we've had since the 80s.

Yet we're bottom half.

Well if you argue it is the case that Moyes handed on the best squad since the 80s, then you have to also deal with the fact that he had them bottom half at this point of the season three times from 2009.

Agree completely. Moyes was a notorious slow starter and managed a bunch of bottlers who only performed when the season was already dead due to an abortive start.

With that said, I'm not holding Martinez to those low standards when it comes to actually managing a talented side. If the best we can hope for from Martinez is to equal what Moyes did, he can sod off basically.

Really? I thought Martinez was bequeathed 'der best squad we 'ad since dee 80s lad' by Moyes?

No, he was left a flawed squad, full of quality in some areas, lacking in quality in others.

He added a focal point in Lukaku, a beast of a player currently ranked 1 of the best strikers in Europe in terms of goals and potential
He added a pivot in the form of Garry Barry, everything good we do goes through him
He added a tireless midfielder in the form of James McCarthy, a superb player who helps the team
He added quality on the wing in the form of the very young, but improving Geri
He also "bulked" the squad out in terms of The Clev, Besic, Mori

We currently have, the best squad I can recall since I supported the club, sure the 80s team was better, man for man, without doubt, but in terms of the squad and the quality that runs through it in almost every position is without question the best squad in the last 30 years.

Yet we sit 11th.

Baffled me.

Ha Ha Ha. Martinez is measured with a more exacting metric than anyone else then?

Well, im not really baffled, when you look at everything good hes done, he still plays 1 of the worst GKs in the league and 1 of the worst football players to ever wear the number 9 of Everton Football Club.

"He did this, he did this, he did this, and he did this"

Yep, and still you're still not grateful.

He should never be compared to Moyes and think its job done, cos at the end of the day, despite taking us from the very bottom, Moyes failed, he failed to win a trophy and he failed to get us into the top 4 on a consistent basis.

Martinez should be compared to his peers, his goal and the measuring stick should and will always be Kendall.

Theres some letters on our shirt David, they might not mean what they used to some, but its something I always feel we should aspire to, as a football club, the letters are NSNO and you know what they stand for David, they dont stand for "Doing Slightly Better Than Moyes", I can tell you that.

I agree completely. But the environment Kendall operated in and the one Martinez does is very different.

Give him time. These dissenters on here would have been daubing Kendall's garage doors with "Kendall OUT!" Graffiti.

So rather than a block of text. We can just say.

Moyes failed.

@davek El Coco doesn't seem so bad now

Im aware of how much the game has shifted since Kendall, im not expecting Martinez to be fighting for Titles, pissing cups and destroying Europe, im fully aware he cant do that on his own, without Board room help.

No mate - he's measured to a higher standard than what either he or Moyes in the second half of his tenure met.

Moyes in his first few years here performed better than Martinez has, pound for pound. And I say that as someone who thought Moyes was awful in the second half of his time here.

As said above, "doing slightly better than Moyes did in his last five years here" isn't a success story, especially given this squad he has.

MOyes took us to 7th, 17th, 4th and 11th in his first 4 full seasons. How is that better than Bobby?
