Roberto Martinez discussion

I know our league position and results at the moment (and last season) don't show it; but to me it's very clear that we are a much better team than we were under Moyes. Our quality players way out number the sub standard ones. How many times could we say that in the past 20 odd years?

We are just missing out on wins. Only just. Not playing crap and scraping draws. It's a subtle but important difference.

There's no team we play against now that I don't think we have a good chance of beating. Not one. In the past i had zero confidence and a win against a 'top 4' seemed like a miracle.

People forget how far our team has come. I get the frustration but the quality of the team as a whole can't always be measured in league finishes and silverware.
I completely get what you mean by that, but i think it's more hope than anything. We know we can score goals so we think 'if we can just keep it tight we'll hammer these' - but we never do.

I know plenty of people who say the same 'I feel like we can beat anybody', but the fact is we've won 6 in 22 this season and 12 in 38 last season. 18 wins in 60 games does not really give the impression of a team who can beat everybody. For all it was used as a stick to beat Moyes with, it's also worth pointing out that Martinez's record away against the old Sky 4 and City reads Played 14 Won 1 Drawn 4 Lost 9. Not exactly a seismic shift.

At the very least we can all be happy he's ditched the 2 coat thing he went for at Barnsley away:

That was so odd for a usually very stylish bloke.

Layering mate.

Spot on.

I expected Everton to get top 8 this season, and I still do. But that's not average. It's nowhere. It's hopeless. It's nothing...as it always was under Moyes...but it's not average. By definition in a 20 team league, it's not average.

He didn't just replicate it, he bettered it in his first season here.

We'll see this May where we finish, but Martinez has built something already here that Moyes could never do: a strong squad beyond the first 11-14 in it and one that plays consistently attractive football, as befits the club's traditions.

Having money to spend without having to sell does that.

This year is the first year I've enjoyed watching a Martinez team and its great and frustrating in equal measure, but that's not the point, the point was it was being claimed the first and second seasons were average.. They were not, they were steps backwards and very much below average,

He tells fibs, waffles nonsense and can't organise a defence, but I still like him as our manager, but lets stop pretending that because we do back heels on the half way line, that 11th is as good as 6th

It's got less to do with money and more to do with coaching ability and vision. In any case, relatively speaking, are Everton any higher up the PL fee/wages table than we were when Moyes was here? All other clubs have spent and we're probably still about 10th or so in spending, so no advantage is to be had there.

6th or 11th: I couldn't give a monkeys. It's the difference between a nothing achievement and a less than nothing one.

I think you're mixed up here, no?

First season - boss
2nd season - Awful
3rd season - Entertaining but poor results/points total...so far

I would rather we finished 6th than 11th
