Roberto Martinez discussion

Your only unclear evidence to back that statement up is that he did not sign any new defenders as you wanted him to, therefore you are continuously using it as a stick to beat him with and trying to brain wash other silly sausages on this forum into your way of thinking.

If we kept 5 clean sheets on the bounce now that would all look a bit silly wouldn't it?

Maybe, just maybe he thought he had enough in the locker with the defence that was only bettered by 2 teams in the league last year and he did not mystically forsee such an array of glaring errors by individuals.

Just a thought!

How much of it is down to his own tactics as well?

He shipped a lot of goals while at Wigan as well

That being said, we had a very good defensive record last season

I know why.

Our defenders have basically forgotten how to defend, we have conceded about 17 goals in 7 matches and I think only 1 of them you would call a good goal, the other 16 can all be traced to a mistake from 1 or more people.

The manager cant be blamed when International defenders and a goalkeeper forgets how to play actual football.

Serious mate? :(

I don't want him out or anything daft, he's just testing my patience. His selections have been weird and his post match comments have added insult to injury. Mirallas has been decent for us and he's been dropped twice (I think) already this season. Naismith too. The defence as well has just been awful.

A 4 1 win against Wolfsburg (which I happen to think was one of the weirdest results ever, because I thought by and large we were gash and Wolfsburg deserved something) doesn't cover it up for me. Last night reminded me of a 2 0 loss away at Bolton a few years ago, where I realised I was finally fed up of Moyes.

Basically, I don't know why we're conceeding so many goals

Hopefully Martinez works it out and does something about it

I would say the game against Arsenal we ran out of steam which we put down to a bad pre-season and definitely a bad excuse.

The Chelsea game was a calamity, full stop!

The Palace game was one put down to individual errors.

3 completely different reasons in 3 different games, the only consistency is that the defence is constantly being brought into question.

But surely it's his job to get them playing football?

I mean, if not, why is he even there?

He picks the team, doesn't culpability ultimately lay with him?

Not saying it does, I'm just floating the question

It does mate, but I would think that 3 defeats should hardly be classed as disastrous and lead to the over reaction that some people tend to get themselves embroiled in on here!

It's actually a bit ridiculous really when you weigh it up! lol

But he can be blamed for the way he's asking them to play. Taking too many (unnecessary) risks at the back. When sometimes its better to clear your lines to gain team positioning on the pitch. It's well noted he (Martinez) is Defensively Naive, the sooner we stop conceding goals left right and center, the sooner we will be a stable team.

EDIT - I do think hes a top manager, however think he's stubborn. Also we will be fine this season.

Most of our defensive complaints seem to be individuals clowning around rather than a general concern over tactics, which would rightfully point towards the manager. Look at the analysis of the Utd game on MOTD2 the other day, now THAT should be levelled at the manager.

bad spell...

Yesterday Distin showed that he's a bit stressed. Im absolutely sure they are a bit "wtf is going on" them selves. Confidence thingy partly imo.

++ it also might have something to do with chemistry inside the dressingroom. New guys innit...You never know how it effects the whole package.

* will be sorted

They seemed to be quite OK with it for the whole of last season, which when you weigh it up was only really a few games ago.

Maybe he thinks they can still play like that and isn't the type of guy to go into meltdown over 3 bad results and abandon his belief in his players.
