Roberto Martinez discussion

It does mate, but I would think that 3 defeats should hardly be classed as disastrous and lead to the over reaction that some people tend to get themselves embroiled in on here!

It's actually a bit ridiculous really when you weigh it up! lol

But the thing is, it's very likely to turn into 5 defeats in the coming weeks. That looks alarming on paper. 5 defeats from 10 in all competitions, and that doesn't factor in losing to Krasnodar

They seemed to be quite OK with it for the whole of last season, which when you weigh it up was only really a few games ago.

Maybe he thinks they can still play like that and isn't the type of guy to go into meltdown over 3 bad results and abandon his belief in his players.

I'm in no way going into meltdown myself lad, but it's evident to see that defensively he has something tactically wrong. He will rectify it, i'm in no doubt regarding that.

It is just as likely not to be 5 defeats as well though, you are simply being pessimistic and I cannot blame you at present as we all want better than we are getting. But that's not how it always turns out is it?

I expect Martinez and his players aren't going to Anfield expecting to lose, it's just the fans.

But surely it's his job to get them playing football?

I mean, if not, why is he even there?

He picks the team, doesn't culpability ultimately lay with him?

Not saying it does, I'm just floating the question

No, he picks the team, but if those players forget how to play football thats on them.

We are talking about 3 players over 30 here.

i thought the first 20mins against palace we were excellent. Last night was our reserves. Disappointing but people as always getting very carried away here.

But he's supposed to manage those players

If they are forgetting to play football, and doing it more than once, he then has to manage those 3 players. Happens in all kinds of employment. Part of being a manager is finding out why someone is not performing and then addressing it so they improve

Your only unclear evidence to back that statement up is that he did not sign any new defenders as you wanted him to, therefore you are continuously using it as a stick to beat him with and trying to brain wash other silly sausages on this forum into your way of thinking.

If we kept 5 clean sheets on the bounce now that would all look a bit silly wouldn't it?

Maybe, just maybe he thought he had enough in the locker with the defence that was only bettered by 2 teams in the league last year and he did not mystically forsee such an array of glaring errors by individuals.

Just a thought!

He settled for strengthening his attacking options, which is great but when it's to the exclusion of dealing with finding a successor to one of our ageing Cbs and ignoring the fact we have no natural stand in for Coleman it's short sighted to say the least. I don't think anyone could believe, having punted Duffy to (apparently) make space for a replacement, he sat on his hands in the last few days of the open window.

He made a massive error. I'm a Martinez believer 100%, but it's beyond question he failed to bolster defence and placed all his eggs stupidly in the attack basket. Now we reap what he sowed.

I've fallen out with him. And not in the Moyes way where he would piss me off but at the end I'd calm down and be like 'oh Moylllez', I'm actually fed up with him.

No offence mate
But that comment is perfect example how tittish/fickle shockingly many people are. No patience. No manners.

I know why.

Our defenders have basically forgotten how to defend, we have conceded about 17 goals in 7 matches and I think only 1 of them you would call a good goal, the other 16 can all be traced to a mistake from 1 or more people.

The manager cant be blamed when International defenders and a goalkeeper forgets how to play actual football
.

They can and they must.

KILL THEM. KILL THEM ALL. NOW

He went into the season with 3 ageing centre backs Jags, Distin and Alcaraz, along with Stones who is seen as the natural replacement for one of the usual first choice 2.

Maybe he envisages Galloway or another of the youngsters challenging too, which if they do and they look good he will seem like a genius again!

I agree that the cover for Coleman is shockingly bad, but I can live with the rest.

For me we go back to the beginning, stop over thinking, stop the over tactical plays, stop passing around our own box, stop playing players who don't deserve it.

Lets play our strongest 11, not worry about tiredness at this stage, get the defenders and DM's to be responsible staying back, and get the attacking boys to do their job together.

I'm not worried..YET, until Martinez shows me he's either learnt and will change it, or shows me he hasn't learnt. Then i can make my decision

To be fair no one suspected how fast distin and to an extent jags would deteriorate, they have always had there wtf moments, but last year we had the third best defence, there was no forseeing the drop in level from them.
Same goes to howard too, comes back from an unbelievable world cup showing with his head maybe up his ass and in poor form

Maybe roberto was expecting at least another season from them, til galloway could make a step up or the transfer chest got a refill.

Im sorry but his selections have been baffling this season at times and he doesn't have a plan B. At least Moyes had the background of pretty much saving the club from the abyss so we all had a bit of patience when things weren't going right. Martinez doesn't have that unfortunately and with the players we have we shouldn't be conceding 17 goals in 7 games, losing at home to Palace, dropping players who have played really well, putting in dour performances in cup competitions when they are our only chance at silverware, dropping points in the last 5 minutes of games twice, all after breaking the record for transfers in Everton history. His post match comments are also annoying me.

Its a shame because I loved him when he first came, and of course Im not so fickle that I want him gone as I still believe hes the right man for the club and the team but he needs to sort it out quickly, especially the defence.
