Roberto Martinez discussion

I felt for hibbert last night he was so bad it was horrible to watch, don't know why browning was not put on at some point
I don't... Come the end of the week, he will pick up that wage that takes us lot a year to earn.

Martinez has seen enough of him to trust and continue to pick him. I don't feel for him at all. Any opposing manager watching that game last night, would have to be thick beyond belief if they wouldn't target Hibbert in any upcoming match in which he has been selected. To say he is very lightweight is an understatement.

' We learned a lot from our players '.

I'm not sure what game you were watching mate, second half we slacked off and they had plenty of chances, prior to that though Howard wasn't exactly troubled regularly. Are you sure you're not just exaggerating to try and fit your argument here?

No Bungle but on the contrary have you been dazzled so you cannot see the wood for the trees.

I've not been dazzled mate, I just know what I see. We've played well in patches but individual errors have cost us massively. I'm not gonna start trying to push some sort of agenda based on half a dozen games, especially not after what we did last season. In another 10 games I might be a bit more worried and may even jump on your bandwagon, but at this particular moment I'm willing to give it a bit more time.

You can however continue to distort facts from a game we won comfortably if it makes you feel better and helps you make your point.

That’s great. He achieved a 5th placed finish in his first season, and nobody can take that away from him.

It’s the exaggeration that annoys me, Everton have finished 5th before, very recently in fact, under David Moyes, a manager that actually managed to break the top four with Everton.

In fact, half of the team Martinez inherited consisted of players recruited by Moyes. Yet we are being told that our team is now so vastly superior to what we had under Moyes. At best, I think that is an exaggeration, at worst I don’t think it is true. Martinez inherited a mid-table premiership side, and we remain a mid-table premiership side. The superlatives being used to describe his style of play are nothing short of hyperbole.

I really hope Martinez can eclipse Moyes ‘achievements’ and take us beyond mid-table. I really do. But hopefully he can do it before he is poached by Barcelona.

It was a good first year. Good enough to earn him some time. Being back in Europe after 5 years is a good thing.

It wasn't a huge step up from the previous year, I agree. But it was another bit of improvement and given he was a new manager and he was altering both the style and the playing squad without actually having any money to spend any improvement is impressive.

This year his feet are under the table, he's been given money to spend, it makes sense that our expectations are a bit higher again. But we can still win the double and finish 4th right now. It's too early to be rash about it.

Think on here did Howie in the 80's ever buggar about playing a second string team, no he always went out with a strong team, in it to win it, that should be the motto not peeing about saying players need a rest. A rest from what playing a couple of games over a few days. They are young and supposed to be super fit!

In the 80s nobody rested so if your players weren't 100% it didn't matter because neither were theres.

These days you might be facing fresh players and if you're not fresh, that little margin might cost you the game.

You say "no offence" then proceed to offend the bloke.

I bet there are no Evertonians on Man United boards offering opinions on what is going wrong with their defence of telling them that conceding five at newly promoted Leicester is "unacceptable"

You have enough to worry about with your own team, the team which has spent a quarter of a billion quid in just over a year.

Happen you should go offer your sage advice to the denizens of Red Cafe.

Calm down darling, no need to be angry all of the time. His post was bobbins but he seems a nice lad and I didn't want to offend him. But "resting your best players at Anfield on Saturday" is just silly.

And there are 3 Everton supporters on the Man Utd boards I post at - they all give their opinions on our dodgy defence and we don't cry about it or throw hissyfits, because it's a fact we cannot escape and we welcome opposition supporters over there. We're friendly like that, you see.

I will post here and offer my opinion because it doesn't hurt anyone and the world will keep turning regardless of my views. I personally don't think Martinez can organise a defence and he has previous - his Wigan team played pretty football but it was proper dodgy at the back and in the end they were relegated to Championship football because of it. My reply to your friend wasn't related to Manchester United's defence but since you're so keen on bringing us up then yes, you're spot-on. And we should be doing better considering we spent all the money in the world over the summer. And we will come good, I know we will - we have King Louis in charge and the delicious Di Maria to pull us through until we sign some world class central defenders in January and next summer.

As for MehCafe, it doesn't represent the real Mancunian so I don't really like the place. It's full of Irish college kids.

;)

The truth is that it is. Pretty much every pundit and neutral acknowledges it, and so did most of our fans last year.

And these achievements of moyes you speak of, granted he took us to the right end of the table and through gritted teeth cos i hate the bell, i thank him, but thats not an achievment, its good work. top 4 was as a result of other teams messing up and everton being solid and scraping wins with football that give my eyes aids, the one chance he had at winning a trophy he bottled.

Some of our fans are surpassing the knee jerk straight into delusion of a RAWK scale

I hate moyes too, but I do think it's fair to say that the football he played in his last 18 months as manager was pretty good to watch. Martinez took over a good footballing team and made them better (we are better under Martinez in terms of style then we ever were under Moyes) but I do get annoyed when people talk about it as if we were stoke before bobby rolled up.

It's a good 3-4 years since we've been truly awful to watch.

Moyes big failures were youth development (Martinez is far superior on that), cowardice and terrible results in cups, europe and derbies.

It's the cup, europe and derbies that I really was looking for Martinez to improve on. So the 4-0 at anfield and the two lame league cup exists are disappointing if only because I'd hoped with Moyes gone we wouldn't see stuff like that any more. Instead it's a bit 'meet the new boss', you know.

I was a strong advocate for his getting the job and I stand by that advocacy in the face of our poor start to this season. I must confess though, to be less than enamoured with all the sideways/backward passing behind our halfway line. And I don't bother listening to his post match views as I know, regardless of how bad we play, that he will say "I thought we were magnificent for large periods of the game...etc", when it is evident to everyone else that we were anything but.
The latter criticism is however, a minor irk, and as I said, I retain faith in RM to get things sorted out on the pitch.
