Roberto Martinez discussion

First team in the bottom half to beat us all season.

Yes I forget we keep drawing instead.

A real sign of progress yeah? Not like we didn't have a season like this last year?

If cleverleys header didn't go in vs Newcastle our last win was November which is absolutely shocking considering our striker has what 15 goals in the league? Only one higher is sitting on top of the league.

We're worse than last season. Where is this progress?

We were a solid top 6/7 team under Moyes. We now struggle to get into the top ten.

like i said. i look forward to watching us more than i have for years.

young talented players being given the chance to show their stuff and more often than not, they do.

youth teams seem to be doing well with a clear plan. im no expert but the youth team thread and loan thread has many experts in there who would say so.

there is progress in areas. quite clearly.

hopefully the results start coming too.

1 win in 10. Simply not good enough is it Mr Martinez.

These players aren't going to stick around long enough for this vision of his to take off.

I thought last season was a blip, but he hasn't got a clue how to win games when the points are right there for the taking...also doesn't seem to have much clout in the transfer market...if I was Kenwright, I'd be sounding out Southampton to see how much compensation it would take to bring Ronald Koeman over here...if he would want the challenge!

As I said in the match thread, I'm now a fully paid-up member of the 'Martinez Out' brigade.

He either has an inability to address our defensive shortcomings (incompetent), or an unwillingness to address them (dereliction of duty). I appreciate his desire to play expansive, attacking football - but he's had more than enough time and resource to demonstrate that he can combine that with a measly defence, which he hasn't done.

I like the guy, I like the way he conducts himself and how he talks about the club. I think he is a good public face for the club, and doesn't embarrass us in front of the media. He isn't beyond redemption - if he got our defence back to basics, dropped players that don't perform, and built from there - I would be very happy for him to remain as our manager. But I don't see that happening at all. His track record includes relegation and the continued pattern from last season shows unprofessional defending, very poor game management and worst of all, a soft centre. I don't think he is up to the job and I fear that he will continue to take us further down the league until we're in a very real relegation battle.

Superb post. Spot on.

He'd make a cracking director of football, as a manager with 10 or so years experience now, he hasn't learnt a thing about the realities of how to be a successful manager, plays pretty football fair enough but when your sat looking down in the table more than up does it really matter that much.

Under Moyes i expected more often than not a boring game - and was thus bored a lot of the time as i expected.
Under Martinez i expect an exciting game that will by the end have me frustrated and disappointed in equal measure - and am usually right about that

Ultimately don't know which one was worse in the end

Its the hope and expectation that kills you
