Roberto Martinez discussion

Last week was a generic term. 'Martinez is not getting the best out of this squad'. And the names bandied around are Stones Lukaku, Barkley and Deulofeu. Today Lukau and Stones were poor and off the pace and Barkley was ok the first half and not really the second and Deulofeu was the reverse. Did Martinez under achieve with them today?

Mate, you badly need to address this stutter.

MARTINEZ has underachieved for 18 months. What are you not understanding with this?

You do realise that we have conceded only 12 away from home in 11 games. The best any manager of Everton has done.

Is it helping win us games?

Concede as little as we like away from home we've still only won 3 of them and then concede for fun at home which is where you can make up for getting draws away from home, the ideal for a team like us who won't win a load of away games is to get draws the odd win and dominate the points at Goodison, something Moyes became very good at shown by our lack of ever beating top 4 teams away yet consistently finishing high in the league from Goodison being a fortress.

Whether its 56 goals a season on average at home or away for a team like us that aint good enough, bet if we took the average of moyes it would be mid 40s over his whole period with us.

There is no Balance in our game it's that simple, throwing away points after points needlessly, once can be justified, repeatedly is bad management.

As for picking that never was in goal - he could well be the sword ge falls on.

3rd highest scorers - hardly sussed out!

If you aren't winning too many. If you are throwing games and points away. If you aren't even in the game to throw it away. If you are conceding goals almost every week.

If we haven't been sussed out now, it will do until somebody REALLY does suss us out...god help us then.

How are the league champions doing?

They are having a bad season, we have had 2 on the bounce.

My whole point was originally that villa got to a cup final last season, and cups in general are a yardstick for nothing, because some people on here are clinging to it as though it's some amazing achievement to get to the semi of a cup.

My other point is that our form is getting worst, not better. Unless we go on a run from now until the end of the season that sees us winning most of the games, we will have for the second season running bombed big time.

It's a results based industry, we have been largely rubbish for the majority of 18 months in that department and it's not good enough. We don't have any entitlement of course, I understand that there are 2 teams on the pitch every game.

I am bored of excuses for this side and manager now. They can change people's mind by actually picking up a few wins, but at the moment there seems little sign of that.

Off topic.

What is his defence of Martinez? And how is it 'better' = primary school childishness - than mine? Which would also be off topic.

On topic. Martinez will know how to get the right result on Wednesday. I'll be there to. Hope you are, we could meet up for a pint before the game or a celebratory one after the game?

@ianefc I think he's offering you out here.

Sadly lessons continue to not be learnt. Over the last 18 months the deficiencies in the team, and how to rectify them, have been obvious. These were even highlighted by Martinez last summer, he came out and said a goalkeeper, creative midfielder, striker and centre half were required. We picked up one of these in the transfer window.

Without external solutions there were still answers to some of our problems within the squad. Robles has not been on a losing Everton side for 12 games, yet Martinez refuses to play him in the league. Barry clearly requires rotation (a point made by Martinez himself last season) but he has been played every game. We required more creativity from central midfield but McCarthy has played when fit with Barry. Besic, Mirallas, Gibson, Lennon, Naismith all unfairly sidelined at certain points to accommodate players like Kone or Cleverley playing out of position. Unfit players such as Baines and McCarthy have come straight back into the team over decent performers like Galloway and Cleverley.

Martinez is not learning. Over 2 and a half seasons in and we still cannot balance attack and defence. He still refuses to recognise the goalkeeping issue. He still refuses to select a balanced midfield pairing. Regardless of my opinion on Martinez, he is creating his own issues here which are now being reflected in the league table. The great shame is that at times he seems so close to turning the corner only to purposefully crash the car just before.
