Roberto Martinez discussion

few little details in the league to put our season into perspective.

  • Chelsea and West brom have lost 9 out of 23 games, and are only a point behind us.

  • We have won the same number of games as swansea bournemouth and norwich, teams we couldn't beat ourselves.

  • We have scored the 4th most goals this season. the other three? 4th 2nd and 1st.

  • We have conceded 34 goals in the process, only 5 other teams have conceded more. they are currently the bottom 5 of the league.

Yesterday put me back to my previous thought. Martinez out. That said it would look harsh if we were to make it to the cup final. He just cannot win me over. Do not think he ever will.

It's it's a joke that people think the league cup will make this season ok

We are terrible. Roberto has made us this way. How long until the apologists realise this. Exciting attacking football, yeah right. Go to any 5 a side pitch you'll see games at 20 all because both teams are all out attack. That's the level of bobbys tactics

The league cup is a joke trophy. Teams play their second string in it. We are so desperate for a trophy that if we win it we will call this a good season and give that bluffer more time. Let's be honest Lukaku, Stones etc aren't going to stay because we won the league cup. Yarmolenko and his like are not going to come because we won the league cup.

The only "trophy" that is going to restore this club to its proper place is the top 4 trophy. Like it or not this game is now about money.
The league cup is a pit stop on the road to obscurity and relegation this man is bringing us down. How shiny does the FA cup look to Wigan now?

I've slept on it to see how I feel, and this morning I'm still fed up. Leaning towards wanting him gone for the first time since the meltdown in Kiev last season. The results aren't good enough and if I continually failed to rectify issues at work in the way he does I'd be sacked.

He should be given until the end of the season, anything less than a sharp change in form and he doesn't deserve the job.

Why until the end of the season?

People said the same thing last season. It hasn't gotten better. 18 wins in 61 games.

I'm not being smart but I can't tell what your point is. Are we ok or [Poor language removed]?

After the awful season of 2014-2015, those 2 alone should be enough to convince everybody that this man is not the right man to lead our club.

Added to the fact that he has a 29% win rate in a season and a half now. Also added to the fact that his first season was clearly a flash in the pan and a one season wonder.

Also throw in that he has now started to make Brendan Rodgers sound like a football genius and is clearly losing the plot.

I really hope he is replaced before it is too late.

We will survive this season and may even get lucky in a cup, mainly as Lukaku is papering over the cracks. He will be gone next season though and I really don't fancy our chances without somebody as good as him up front.

Come on Everton's board, do the right thing and rid us of this tiresome man and his painful and lame excuses for not doing his job properly.

The fact is we performed extremely badly for the majority of last season. Boring, slow football, no intensity, very few chances created, shaky at the back. This season our attacking has improved but our tactics seem completely wrong in lots of games. We seem to sit very deep and invite pressure with no pressure on the ball to try to play on the counter eg Spurs and Swansea at home. This doesn't work well at home. The crowd get anxious and the away gets a mental lift from having a lot of the ball. You then add the inability to defend crosses and corners, individual mistakes and a terrible goalie and its a recipe for disaster. The worrying thing is that it is not an issue that can be addressed by signing players. The players are good enough. It is the manager/tactics and they show no sign of change. We are one injury to Lukaku from being in a relegation scrap, a scrap we are not mentally or tactically equipped to cope with. Teams relying on goals from Kone go down.

I purposefully stayed off here yesterday, my head was too chocker and i was absolutely fuming with the result. I said after his first season, ill judge him after his second, first season syndrome and all that and he had the foundations from Moyes built. after the second season i said this one might just be a fluke, so lets see what happens next season.

And I am now done, its undeniable we are more exciting and attractive team, but the glass ceiling we were banging our heads against is not even in sight anymore. While i don't think we would be relegated, if we didn't have some of the quality we have id probably be looking at a team in similar form and confidence saying id keep an eye on them dropping in the table.

Lets be perfectly honest, what is happening is not good enough, Martinez has failed his entire management career to plug the holes in his management, everything that is going on at our club has gone on before with him "Exciting wigan, calamitous in defence" etc.

Right now i don't know what the answer, but its perfectly clear long term its not Martinez - with the quality we have mid table is probably where we will sit, quality gets sold and who knows what will happen.

Lose this week in the cup, he has to leave.

I reckon if Moyes was given the chance to spend 28m on a player, instead of having to sell several players for that sort money to progress the team, I think he may of done better than he did.. which even before that is better than Martinez has us doing currently.

We are going to pick up points and he may win every game from here till RM retires... but so far criticism is deserved because he has taken us backwards, and anyone who thinks 11th is the same as 6th needs to consider Everton's need for money to compete amongst other things.

£875,000 per game shown + 8.75m standard... The higher we finish and better we are against bigger teams and the more we push for Europe... the more games we get and they are worth nearly a mil each

£1,236,083 the money per place x 5 for the previous 11th/6th comparison... £6,180,415 x 2. That's over Moyes entire budget over the ten years he was here. lose that two years in a row like we are on course for currently and we miss out on the chance of buying another decent player. But I guess you find say Osman preferable to a 12m replacement?

Personally I'd like Everton to have the extra 12m, the extra games, the better players, the chance for Europe and the sheer pleasure of winning games.

Seems to me you may as well just watch the cup games and save yourself the boredom of the following the pointless league you don't care about.

Amuses me how there is no difference between 5th and 11th places... but those points Martinez got in his first season meant everything.

Great post.

Doesn't matter who we appoint, until our finances change, we won't get in top 4

How can you explain Leicester this season then mate? Or the fact that Spurs haven't exactly spent anything significantly more than us for a good few seasons and have had to replace their best players on a regular basis?

Think he's a nice guy, but totally deluded and unable to recognize his own flaws and the problems this creates in the team. I see no indication whatsoever that he's going to change, or that he has what it takes to solve this team's defensive frailties and inspire the players to play with passion.

I've always had reservations about him, but am increasingly starting to hate him for the fact that he's responsible for Everton achieving nothing with the best squad we've had in my lifetime. I've never seen Everton compete at the top end of the table, and this was a real opportunity to do so. Sadly we can expect Lukaku, Stones etc. to leave without fulfilling their massive potential at our club.

Want him gone as soon as possible.
