Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "We are not underachieving" © Getty Images 0 0 4 4 By Pascal Lemesre, Football League Editor Filed: Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10:16 UK Last Updated: Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10:16 UK Under-fire Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that the club is "not underachieving" in the wake of some supporters' calls for his head. The chair of the Everton Supporters Group yesterday revealed that the "vast majority" of Toffees fans felt that Martinez's time in charge of the club had run its course following Wednesday's night's League Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City. Martinez led Everton to a fifth-placed Premier League finish in his first season in charge, but the Merseyside club are 12th after 23 games this term and defeat on Sunday in the FA Cup fourth round to Carlisle United would increase the pressure further on the Spaniard. When asked about being under fire this morning, Martinez told reporters: "That's football. I'll never come up with excuses for lack of wins. I feel we are on right path. "We are not underachieving. We just haven't reached the level of winning consistently. You need to go through painful experiences. "You cannot be underachieving with a team which has been put together over the last two-and-a-half years." Martinez also confirmed that James McCarthy, Tom Cleverley and Seamus Coleman would be fit for the trip to Brunton Park, although Kevin Mirallas faces a late fitness test. He's a bloody nutcase.

I'm not a Martinez cheer-leader (far from it!)...but in fairness to him , the bent officialdom has burgled our team of points (and any possible momentum) this season. In recognising this incontrovertible, it's time we Evertonians all pulled together (and please, no cheap innuendo shots). Divide and conquer is the game being played against us...

He's a bloody nutcase.
He also said amongst other things that we need to turn draws into wins and get those small margins falling in our favour.
And that he could understand the fans frustrations and took ownership of how we are doing. I'd quote the thing but am on my phone

I'll give him credit...he gives a great interview doesn't he? Says All the right things and leaves you feeling all excited afterwards.

@You cannot be underachieving with a team which has been put together over the last two-and-a-half years."

He's a bloody nutcase.

Either that or extremely disingenuous.

All we ask is he stops making excuses and sorts it out

The tide is too far gone against him now. Every time an opposition team score against us, especially at Goodison, the atmosphere will be poisonous.

He'll more than likely get the season, but no doubt he should be sacked at the end of it.

24 more hours on, a great sense of calm has descended over me about this/him.

Martinez is clearly finished at Everton.

Of course, he won't be sacked as quickly as he should be by our board -or indeed as quickly as he would have been already almost anywhere else. That's OK though, I can wait.

It really is only a matter of time and the level of negative atmosphere his inept tactics & results continue to generate at Goodison.

No amount of blind, self-righteous nonsense about about how we're "only fractions away from success" or his "record points haul" in his first season will make any difference to the ultimate outcome. Martinez is clearly incapable of ever turning us around.

Going...going....

"We are not under-achieving because we never won the title in last three or four seasons"

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jan/29/roberto-martinez-everton-criticism-carlisle
The full quote may be more approriate mate? Nothing wrong with those words to me to be honest...

“We are not under-achieving because we never won the title in last three or four seasons. We are not a group that has reached a level of winning constantly yet. What we are is an exciting group with the best potential in years of winning something at this club. It won’t happen overnight and it won’t be straight forward.

“You need to get through painful experiences to develop the know-how. We have shown signs that we’re getting really close but we cannot be under-achieving when this team has been developing only two years and we are creating something that will be very powerful in the future.”

Bobby is meeting the FA.

And he has ordered a new lucky mascot.
lol i mistyped, so apologies there.

What i meant was the ball broke out to fabregas who had the time to get a shot off, rebounds off defender, goes in.

2 WEEK LATER

ball breaks to fernanhino, time to take a shot, rebounds and goes in.

THERE IS A THEME!

we aren't covering the space outside the box when we defend.

He claimed: “We are not under-achieving because we never won the title in last three or four seasons. We are not a group that has reached a level of winning constantly yet. What we are is an exciting group with the best potential in years of winning something at this club. It won’t happen overnight and it won’t be straight forward.

2009 - reached final
2014-2016 - reached semi-final

So we've actually been 90 mins from winning something, rather than say a game and another semi-final leg.

Excuse after excuse after excuse - and never even accurate

I don't the rest of that detracts from how ludicrous his first sentence is. So 12th is not underachieving because we haven't won the title. He's given himself carte blanche. As long as he doesn't win the title he will never underachieve.
