Roberto Martinez discussion

People who want to act like Newcastle fans with short termist self.entitlement issues wont look at the facts mate.

look at the amount of posts in the transfer thread saying "i wouldnt trust martinez with money":

Galloway
Mori
McCarthy
Besic
Deulofeu
Lukaku

Other than Kone whose been a flop and McGeady another disaster he has an amazing record in the transfer market especially when adding Barry and Cleverley on frees.

But suddenly because hes had tremendously bad luck as well as individual errors from developing youngsters and an over.the hill keeper suddenly hes terrible in the transfer market.

So, quite clear theres either short termism and self entitlement issues from a lot of people which is bizarre after moyes and seeing as we havent won anything for 20 odd years....or theyre off their nuts.

I don't think it's self entitlement to believe this squad of players should be doing better, of that there is no doubt.

One of my major concerns is that we'll start next season with a weaker team and who knows where that would take us with Martinez in charge. There's just so few positives right now, if I could see an ability to change things and an improvement in the mentality/tactics then I'd be made up to see him stay but it's currently not forthcoming.

Imagine, hes only 42 years old....Antonio Conte at Juve is massively rated but 46 years old and before joining juve his record was a bit sketchy...

Ive always seen next year as being the "first year" to begin judging him....by that time he should have pretty much his own team and the deadwood out.

It also will be interesting to see who he buys when he has money to spend...for someone supposedly poor defensively hes only bought Mori and Galloway...none of the others are his choice.

A manager needs 4 years before he can be judged? Mental.

I think it's fair for fans to judge him mate. But I also think everything needs to be taken into account when fans are claiming we should get rid right now. We don't currently have, for all purposes, a board as we are in the midst of a potential takeover (not that the board was any good before that).

There are also not many manages out there that are available and would guarantee us improvement/take the chance to join Everton at this point in the season.

We have had some bad luck, and we have also being very naive at times as well. But I think we're showing the right signs.

If a new manager joined today mate and got us to 7th and won the FA Cup, we'd still likely start next season with sales of major players. It would happen whoever was in charge (bar Pep or Mourinho).

And you say that he has not shown an ability to change?

I beg to differ.

We kept a clean sheet at City and drew at home to Spurs, keeping it very tight at the back on both occasions (on the whole). On both occasions, he was criticised for not attacking enough. The man can't win with some fans...

Unfortunately I think on both occasions we didn't have a choice. You can't take the game to better teams, purely because we didn't see enough of the ball to. I'm very skeptical about anything Martinez does and given out results I think I'm well within my rights to be.

It's very worrying that more alarm bells aren't ringing tbh. You look at our lack of wins and the three teams our last three victories were against and it's a poor situation to say the least.

Well we tried to the other night mate, and we managed against Chelsea - would have won that game with a bit of luck that, once more, was totally out of RM's control.

Oh I'm concerned. I just don't think the answer is sacking Martinez right now.

Chelsea aren't a better team this season. We didn't take the game to City the other night either, very rarely got past half way on Wednesday.

I just don't rate him as a manager, he's got until May in my mind for him to change that viewpoint. Luckily for him he's probably got a lot longer than that here.

Still a hard team to beat under Hiddink though mate, with some very good players - albeit out of form. We'd have beat Chelsea had the officials done their job - that's a fact that can't be disputed.

City, we went there knowing a draw would be enough. From the start, their £500mil team pushed us back. We played them brilliantly on the counter and got the goal. The gameplan was working, even when they scored, we regrouped (with a bit of luck after Aguero hit the post) and got stronger towards half time.

Second half again, we set up perfectly in the first 15 minutes, and Del should have put the game to bed after another really good counter.

Then, they bring on a £50mil sub who, and we were sitting deep by this point, pushes us back even further. They then get a huge help in hand from a dreadful referee decision. You cannot dispute that. Our heads drop, they have the quality to take advantage.

I don't think you will find many teams who go to the Etihad in a situation like we did on Wednesday and do anything different than what we did. If Martinez had gone for all out attack, he'd have been slated for being naive - don't even pretend he wouldn't have been.

He tried to play them on the counter and get the result that way, and for 70 minutes it was going to plan. As I said, the game turned on a clear-cut decision not going our way, that a referee of the experience of Atkinson, and the position he was in, definitely could see.

I'm not bothered by the City loss, that's what happens in cup competitions when a bit of luck goes against you and you come up against a better team.

My issue is the whole season hinged on that game when it really shouldn't have.

They are his choice, he's had five Windows to replace whoever he wants. He's not replaced Stones Jags Baines and Coleman because they're top players. In fact that's his first choice back 4. If he wanted different defenders he wouldn't of been short of suitors for those 4.

I see your point mate, but I don't think the whole season did hinge on that game. Maybe in the minds of fans who want Martinez out it did, but I believe if people take a step back and realise that we've got nearly half of the season left to go, plus the FA Cup.

If the results don't improve, I'll admit I was wrong. But i'm willing to give him the rest of the season for him and the players - who must take some responsibility, especially the senior ones - to turn it around.

A first-choice back four that has not played together once this season due to injuries - injuries outside of RM's control.

To be fair, the man can't seem to win at all.
