Roberto Martinez discussion

We don't lose often which is great.

But then again we almost never win.

That isn't good enough imo we have a fantastic squad.

Edit; Oh and we play 2 defensive midfielders every game... no matter what the circumstance.

Roberto Mugabe more like if this Guardian article is anything to go by.
He is blind to our issues.
Doesnt think we are underachieving?

Imagine he was managing some other club with the wins stats he's accumulated over the last 18 months or so and coming out with this kind of bilge.

It's unlikely of course, most PL clubs would have bulleted him months ago. However, if he was behaving/performing like this somewhere else, I wonder who on here would do anything other than p1ss themselves at his nonsense.

I see your point mate, but I don't think the whole season did hinge on that game. Maybe in the minds of fans who want Martinez out it did, but I believe if people take a step back and realise that we've got nearly half of the season left to go, plus the FA Cup.

If the results don't improve, I'll admit I was wrong. But i'm willing to give him the rest of the season for him and the players - who must take some responsibility, especially the senior ones - to turn it around.
Another issue is the feeling that they'll simply get turfed out of the FA Cup by the first decent side they face, same as always.

I think it's great that you're finding plenty to get excited about, but I'm not sure why you seem so surprised by other people's waning interest in this manager.

I want to see a distinct improvement defensively from now to the end of the season or he can go for me, it is glaringly obvious our defending has been abysmal and that is the area to now concentrate on.

Martinez has no excuses now, he's got very good defenders at his disposal, Coleman, Stones, Baines, Mori, Jags, there's a back 4 out of that lot that could be as good as anything in this league, he better get the best out of them.

I don't think it's self entitlement to believe this squad of players should be doing better, of that there is no doubt.

One of my major concerns is that we'll start next season with a weaker team and who knows where that would take us with Martinez in charge. There's just so few positives right now, if I could see an ability to change things and an improvement in the mentality/tactics then I'd be made up to see him stay but it's currently not forthcoming.

So few positives right now? We are scoring goals - and great goals - at a rate that other teams envy.

And, if you're patient, we have a squad of young players that can only get better.

And our misfortune with deflections and outrageous decisions must change soon too!

A first-choice back four that has not played together once this season due to injuries - injuries outside of RM's control.

Can't have it both ways here. People are arguing that Martinez has not been able to choose his own defenders, then also arguing that he's not had Moyes' back 4 to pick.

We have more than enough quality at the back even in the reserves to field a decent defence. Stop constantly looking for excuses.

Imagine, hes only 42 years old....Antonio Conte at Juve is massively rated but 46 years old and before joining juve his record was a bit sketchy...

Ive always seen next year as being the "first year" to begin judging him....by that time he should have pretty much his own team and the deadwood out.

It also will be interesting to see who he buys when he has money to spend...for someone supposedly poor defensively hes only bought Mori and Galloway...none of the others are his choice.

I'm assuming you mean next season? Really, you're honestly willing to grant that as his starting point? I find that astonishing.

Mate, what constitutes his 'own' team & the 'deadwood'??? I'm not being funny or sarky, genuinely curious...

Really, there's no supposed about that, it applies right across the board in his 9 years of management thus far. It is without any shadow of doubt an 'issue'.

Score all the goals you want but if you don't win games you're wasting your time.

I am positive about some of the players we have at the club, unfortunately I'm negative about the manager being able to use them in a way that wins games.
