Roberto Martinez discussion

I'm sure he missed a few or was carrying a niggle. As usual people descend into debating specifics. The general point is this, good managers don't let a few injuries derail their whole season, they find ways of winning. Martinez can't.

Vardy has not missed a premier league game for Leicester this term. They have been incredibly lucky with injuries. Fair play to them, they're playing brilliantly.

I wish people would stop comparing us to them. They're having a freak season and all power to them.

This might sound radical, but I reckon that a good way to assess the performance of a manager is from the results obtained. Thus, Roberto's management performance speaks for itself.

And Pellegrini has barely fielded Kompany and Arsenal have missed Welbeck, Wilshere, yet both sit up near the top of the league. Martinez has a highly talented squad, he is not getting the best out of it at all.

Right... c'mon.

All you hear from City fans and pundits is how they've missed Kompany!! Their squad is worth £700million. Even with an injury to their best defender, they have the best attacking quartet in the league.

Arsenal. Wilshere is always injured, and he's not that good. Arsenal also have Ozil, Cazorla (injured atm, granted), Sanchez, Giroud, Coquelin, Ramsey, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain.... and they have had barely any injuries to their defence. They also have a world class keeper. They also have a squad and wage bill twice the value of ours.

Mental comparisons.

Who would you get to replace him, right now?

Surely a tramp from the street could do better with the current group of players at Everton?

You seem to be saying we have had a load on injuries, which is true, but at no point have we had to stick bad players in the team, Jags got injured we still had Mori and Stones, McCarthy got injured, we replaced him with Besic, the injury excuse isnt cutting it with me, sorry.

Here we go again. They're not direct comparisons. Stop denigrating every point with a asinine trivial answer and actually make a counter point of your own.

The wider point here is that City and Arsenal have targets at the start of the season, they are different to ours currently, but all three teams have targets. Despite bad injuries (in Arsenal's case far worse than ours) they are still competing for their targets. We've not had really bad injuries but we are miles away from our targets and the excuse so conveniently trotted out is injuries.

Every team in the league has them but I can't think of another team underperforming as much as we are given the talent in the squad. Relatively speaking we are probably the worst performing side in the league currently.

I'm not saying that at all mate. Saint Domingo named the four players in our first choice defence - I simply pointed out it is a defence that hasn't played together at all this season. I didn't say that we had to bring in bad players to replace them... I didn't imply that was why we haven't got the results.

I just presented a fact.

No i would be delighted if he signed ofc, but Martinez has lost me mate, hard to enjoy the good stuff when you know due to the manager we are fatally flawed no matter what a great set of players he can put together then he has zero ability to actually fuse them together in a team, great director of football or coach - as a manager he has now been shown up as being as useful as a boat with no hull

Ignore everything else and lets say for example we are taken over and have loads of cash to spend and Martinez has the full confidence of the new owners.

If in the summer he was able to shift out whatever players he wanted and keep all the players he wanted to + sign his 1st choice targets (within reason) who fit his style of play....and lets say they are all in the bracket he spends money on (under 25 with huge potential...

Do you not think with one season playing together nexf year and getting to know each other as a team (bar ref decisions and loads of key injuries) he would have us hitting close to top 4 with his team and the following season with the extra experience and development for the young players he would get us top 4?

Because i firmly believe if he is able to build his squad then we will achieve top 4...its no use giving someone with a massively different approach to other managers and then not having long term patience to let him build a squad....

Whats the worst that can happen, were mid-table and have a load of potential superstars ready for another manager to utlize?

The positives of patience for me far outweigh te negatives....

We dont know what happens behind the scenes but if you subscribe to the gradual inprovement of the squad then in the summer we will have a new keeper and a star left winger + more decent additions....even with the disasters this year we would be several positions higher just with a couple of better players than kone and howard.

I think Villa fans might disagree

I am not informed enough of available alternatives. But I am informed enough of current results.

Ah, the old, 'We don't have to make the decision'.

I've got nothing wrong people suggesting he should leave, at all. It's opinion. Everyone has one.

What I would like, is for people who are saying he should leave right now, is for them to at least suggest a viable alternative. Is that not fair?

Its a classic cult action, deflect blame, it was the refs, it was the injuries, it woz chelsea.

Everytime Martinez opens his mouth he reminds me of a kopite.

He should be replaced at the end of the season with Vitor.

Of course, it helps your argument if you get your facts right.

And we haven't reached the end of the season yet.

To all the Martinez apologists : were he a fund manager looking after your superannuation fund, would his performance lend you confidence to keep giving him part of your earnings every month?
