Roberto Martinez discussion

Geri cost us 3 points at Chelsea.

He made a mistake in not hanging onto the ball.

That did not cost us three points. We recovered from that mistake with a very good/well timed offside trap that caught Terry in a blatantly obvious offside position. The defence did its job, the officials did not do theirs. They are there to get the big calls right. All too often they get them wrong. They got that one wrong, and it cost us.

It's hard to react to an offside equaliser in the 98th minute.
Oh, there is no question that Everton has been stiffed by bent officialdom and I cut Martinez some not insignificant slack on this issue. I guess for me though, despite the egregious refereeing, I do not see Martinez as anything other than a journeyman.

Oh, yeh, so if, like you say, it was Geri, then why does Martinez get the blame?

Geri loses possession, Chelsea go onto score a goal that was clearly offside. I don't personally see what Martinez has done wrong there. He clearly wasn't instructing Geri to hang onto the ball, as just three days previous against City, we had been clearing our lines - so that is on Geri, not Martinez.

Again, the point would have been moot if the officials had done their job.

Well if football is not your professional area of expertise, why are you so adamant that Martinez is the wrong man for the job? You'll say the results, but then you've just admitted, you're not an expert... This is my point mate, that even reasonable posters like yourself who are just as entitled to your opinion as I am mine, are unable to think of anyone who could come in right now at this very moment and guarantee success...

We've all been following footie long enough to know that no one can be guaranteed to be a success, and in this case the outcome of either sacking or keeping can't be predicted with any certainty. Everything brings a risk, I suppose the trick is to minimise those risks that can cause most damage. At the moment I think IMHO that RM is a liability for the club and things are getting steadily worse. That doesn't mean that the new guy would be any better just because you make a change, but to me that risk of making a change is lower than staying as we are.

Plenty of them have been saying it for a while mate. But not because we didn't beat teams like Stoke/Swansea etc. No, apparently we're underperforming because we got knocked out of a semi-final by Man City and because we drew with Chelsea down to a dodgy ref decision...

Got no problem with people saying we are under-performing in games we should expect to win. It's when it's the other way round, and there's other mitigating factors that are referenced but then swiftly put under the rug, that it annoys me.

Liverpool, for example, have massively underperformed under Klopp considering the squad he has at his disposal. He's getting an incredibly easy ride because 'it's not his squad' - i'd suggest a top manager should be able to take over any squad and make it better.

Mate, y'know what, although we disagree you do make some BOSS arguments & reasoning for the 'for' camp...but this though above, y'know, we threw away a 2 goal lead...at 64 minutes. Forget 'the decision', it's gone, it stood...fact is we again threw away a lead because we couldn't kill the game and because we're defensively inept at times.

hey, maybe it's not just the manager, maybe it's the players as well?
because I watch our games
