4 wins at home all season

Boss progress

I readily admitted the season as a whole has been a farce, its about how we kick on from now till May.

You appear to have made your mind up already, which is a shame, surely he deserves to see out the season? Then we can assess it properly over a 38 game League Season.

How can you berate someone for having their mind made up already when on the basis of 5 games you are quoting Sun Tzu and claiming victory in some war you invented and have changed sides in more often than Dave mentions 72 points.

"Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him"

I suggest your not quite aware what the word progress means.

Allow me to teach you.

progress

[noun prog-res, -ruh s or, esp. British, proh-gres; verb pruh-gres]

a movement toward a goal or to a further or higher stage:

5 games, 1 goal against, 11 goals for.

the development of an individual or society in a direction considered more beneficial than and superior to the previous level.
Ah bless.

Remind me - how many games are there in a season?

How many seasons has El Fraudo had so far?

Yep. Five games is a valid sample size. Of course it is.

If Martinez CONTINUES this improved display, then more people will start to believe that he is directly responsible and deserves the credit. I will be one of them. However, if the overall trend from the Martinez era continues then we will see more dismal draws and insipid losses than we are prepared to accept, and the majority on here will continue to be disgruntled. It's entirely within Roberto's own power and I hope that he DOES continue to oversee improved results.

The derby and the Cup are key points now - he needs to win at least one, AND see us move up into 8th or better in the league. And if we're talking about the Cup, a "win" involves getting to the final, scoring more goals than the opposition and walking home with the trophy. None of this "impressive cup run" blarney.

Goes beyond the last five games though. We've lost three times in the last 12 games and won 6, conceding just 8 times. If we keep that up for the rest of the season in the PL it'd get us top 7. If we convert more draws into wins we could still be on for a top 6 finish.

Talk is cheap though. A win against Villa a week tonight and a win against West Ham would put us into a good position and leave us with a base to launch an attack on Chelsea in the cup. There's still a lot to play for this season.

Imagine a season when 4 home wins going into March is considered progress.

Imagine a season when Stoke, West Brom, Swansea have all taken 3 points at goodison and it's considered progress

Imagine a season when you've conceded the most home goals in Europe's top divisions and it's considered progress

Progress, newly defined by some on here
4th best away record in the PL
4th highest scorers
Team that's gone furthest in both cup competitions than any other PL team
Consistently the best footballing team in the country

These are the reasons why your point of view only resonates with Paul Merson and Joey Barton.

I don't think either will be guaranteed a place next season if they play the way they have this one.
I cant see them being shifted anytime soon, tbh. Besic will more likely take over Barry's position and we have no real contender for Coleman's RB position

I ask that The Cult lower their weapons and embrace The Plotters like brothers.

“Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win”

The Fence Sitters can jog rar on tho.

Without sounding like a pedant - surely the team that wins most football matches is the best footballing team in the country. No secret that much of the frustration stems from the perceived sacrifice of results to the style.

Just so I have things right? These past few games, dependant on who's posts you pay attention to it varies between 5-12 games, have shown clear signs of progress and the 'Plotters' have been 'Piped rar down'?

Looking for consistency, I think it's fair to point out that almost a year ago the 'Plotters' we being told the EXACT same thing by the EXACT same people.

This was when we played.... Newcastle, QPR, Southampton, Swansea, Burnley and Manchester UTD a run of games that provided 5 of the 20 league wins accumulated in the past 64 outings up to the current day. That run was ended by a dismal defeats by Villa and Sunderland.

The point of this is that it's very much a case of 'we've seen it all before' and not just at Everton when it comes to Martinez. Even at Wigan he had a reputation for not getting his teams going until February then they'd look decent going into the final few months and ultimately stave of relegation, although it should be noted that year on year their final league position got worse until the inevitable happened, all Martinez is doing is recreating this occurrence with better players.

Half the people who ARE saying 'let's at least give him until the end of the season before judging' are the same people who said last season 'he has until Christmas' and then bottled taking a stance.

Can anyone logically explain to me how it's fair that fans, who have seen the past 20 months provide 20 league wins, should be won over by the last 6-8 weeks (when paying attention to the points I've already mentioned about Martinez getting his teams going for the last couple of months of the season) because we have Only beaten Stoke and Newcastle in the League this year lost to Man City when being 3-1 up with an hour to go and beaten a couple of lower league teams and Bournemouth in the Cup.

The hypocrisy of People being called knee-jerkers when they have a stance that could be considered 'negative' yet when posters are trying to tell me and others 'That all is well' because of 8 game run isn't kneejerking???
