Roberto Martinez discussion

Aitor karanka or de boer in for me please.. if we're going to stick with cheap managers or people with a knowledge of england just go for karanka.. offers the flair and broke a championship defensive record.

Anythings better than martinez and his matalan suit and burtons brown shoe chiq

I think Martinez is tactically inept. Everton played extremely well today, and yes we were let down by Mirallas' stupidity but it was Martinez inability to recognise that an outplayed and largely spiritless West Ham side would be bouyed by that penalty miss. Had he recognised the positive effect of seeing your opponent fail to put the game to bed, he would have bolstered an increasingly tired and stretched midfield.

For all his entertaining forward play, a good manager, a good tactician recognises that one size does not fit all! They recognise that sometimes forward paly has to be sacrificed to claim the prize. Sometimes, the bus has to be parked, and Roberto seems wholly incapable to processing this. For this reason above all else he is not the man to take us forward and he should be removed as soon a possible.

Its simply not in his nature. Attack is the best form of defence in his eyes. When it works it works and when it doesnt then people fume like today.

The players dont want to be here

I won't fault RM for the players' faults mate.

What I fault him for is the Lennon sub. It didn't need to happen and if it did should have been Barry to sure us up, or Del if he wanted pace.

After that the players are equally as to blame for their collapse.

Thats true, also a bit odd taking him off at WBA.

Perhaps theres a reason for it though which we arent aware of?

Lukaku scores (or barkley takes it) and were 3-0 up and cruising. Martinez then the hero for smashing Wham with 10 men.

Mirallas massively to blame today. Niasse let him down as well.....

Zero fault on Martinez part.

When Besic came on we played 4-3-2, Besic, McCarthy and Barkley with Lennon further forward and we scored, we missed a penalty and Lukaku was through on goal set up by Barkley's pass playing a bit deeper.

They scored their first when Noble crossed from our right. If Mirallas hadn't got himself sent off Lennon would have been chasing back and covering on the right. The cross may not have come in. Their second goal came when Barkley didn't do enough to close down. The third was a punt from the left back and a header was won that set up Payet.

Our heading in the box was very weak today, which we have of late been ok. But Villa's goal during the week showed that side of our game needs working on. When Carroll came on it was obvious what they were going to do. so it was up to the players to attempt to stop as many crosses as possible.

Well hes dropped howard in the weeks that changed your opinion of him and also played Mirallas (which you say you wanted)

Today Mirallas let the side down mate....

You simply cant legislate for lukaku missing to make it 3-0 or the loss really as going down to 10 is tiring and exposes the defenders who should have (Mori) headed the ball.

Canr fault martinez for those things. What if lukaku had scored....wouldnt we all now be praising his taxtics at the start? If mirallas hadnt been sent off we would likely have won as well.
I'd be praising the first half tactics, still won't agree with not keeping the score for ones. I love/hate IF situations, as most of it is bs. Fact is what actually happened.

I can't legislate for Lukaku's miss, but even at 3:0 up if he takes Lennon of for Niasse - it's still a crap sub that will cost us at least a few goals and buttclenching moments, and who knows what will happen when those come in.

And yes, I can lose faith in the manager even if we win if we're barely getting away with some of it. Bournemouth in the cup was described as a "steady win", despite the fact we played gash most of the first 45 and they probably should've been at least a goal up, had it not been for a good Joel save from the pen (after which THREE players were unmarked in the box for the follow up and bumped into each other and missed a sitter, which I'd say was lucky as all hell). Newcastle with the late Cleverley goal after a jumble in the box and crap play overall again? In the Villa win, had it been against a decent team - they'd be cruising a few goals up at HT, and even there Joel had to make a few excellent saves, and the goal was, again, from a cross. I cba going through every game in the last 3 months, but you get my point I hope.

Hire a group of ex-footballers with absolutely no knowledge of management at the highest level to run the club?

Worked really well for Shearer, didn't it?

Nev's a legend but he doesn't half chat some nonsense.

...we're currently managed by an ex-footballer with seemingly no knowledge of managing at the highest level.

Wouldn't be much of a change really eh...
