Roberto Martinez discussion

But he didn't play on the left, and he didn't show a good work rate. So I'm not sure what your previous understanding of his role has to do with anything.

It was an awful sub mate, and agree that there is just no excuse as it didn't need to be done or if Lennon really was shattered then the smart choice and easy choice would have been Barry or Baines. it's one of the first times this season - bar the Gibson one vs Bournemouth (I think) - that I have seen no logic at all in one of his changes and rightly so he deserves all the bashing and pressure he will get for it from the fans.

Me and you have had a lot of reasoned debate on here and I think we can agree that although we didn't always agree on points we did at least get to the stage where we could both see that RM was starting to show his ability to change.

Ultimately, he's proved your theory that at the end of the day he can't change fully by that inept decision in the 76th minute yesterday. Before that, I don't think i'm overhyping it when I say that it was one of our best displays of the season to date - especially considering Mirallas' sending off.

I'd go one step further and say yes, we lost because of that sub.

We may have been pulled back to 2-2 without it, but I honestly don't think we'd have conceded three if Deulofeu had been brought on, or even if Lennon had stayed on, knackered or not.

I've had time to reflect on it and I actually think that that sub is hands down the worst sub I've ever seen an Everton manager make. It made no sense and never had a prayer of succeeding, and the fact he's paid to make that call when quite literally anyone else would have made a better one is mind boggling to me.

How coincidental as hands down this is the worst post you've ever done.

Deulofeu would have stopped stopped us conceding 2 headers? Or is the third that he would have stopped?

Ohhh sorry. You mean he would have kept the ball away from our goal. Like he did against Chelsea in the last minute?

He would have definitely have finished the lukaku one on one though right? And scores the penalty.

It's utterly bizarre and from you of all people, a very poor post.

Laudrup is a bit useless.

That would just be a side ways step.

Id try get hiddink for a year or somehow try blag mourinho into it.

Failing that villas-boas
I don't think Laudrup is that bad he won Swansea a cup and they did get a rid of him quick, without him really having the chance to improve things. There's no chance at all at this time in getting Mourinho, Hiddink would just be temporary so I'm not keen on that idea either. We need someone for 3 odd years as I can see Duncan Ferguson getting the job in a few years. Boas, de boer no way for me, but saying that if we had of replaced Martinez at the beginning of the season with Ranieri most wouldn't have been happy but look at what he has done.

martinez is not responsible for mirallas being sent off. nor the penalty miss. nor the poor refereeing. what he is responsible for is not losing 2 goal leads. tactically outdone yesterday. at 2 nil up we should have done what others do to us , park the bus and not look to attack. this is where he has and will continue to fail as a manager. It's a shame because I like the man but it's not good for my health and others watching us at home this season.

They got rid of him quickly for a reason - he wasn't very good and caused a major rift.

No more chaners

Me and you have been fully in support of RM mate but (and tbf I haven't read your posts yet so you may have already done this) but we have to admit he got the change horribly wrong yesterday.

Del would have been a better option. The point was that Lennon was pressurising West Ham's defence but he also gave us a real outlet of pace - which meant that McCarthy was dropping deep into the box to help clear the crosses when they came in - and it was working.

My choice for the sub (not that I wanted it at all as we didn't need it) would have been Baines or Barry - but Del would definitely have been a better option than Niasse.

Ultimately that sub cost us just as much as Rom's (awful) penalty miss and Kev's red card.

Eh?

Deulofeu on, then we have a player who knows the system, knows the expectations and would track back, while offering an outball to feet to run them back, meaning they couldn't just flood us down both sides.

Niasse offered none of that. So yes, Deulofeu would have helped us stem the tide. We may have tired late on, but we wouldn't have basically opened the door wide for West Ham.

The thing is he's not learning from his mistakes, or is it just that he can't stop the mistakes from happening, if so then he's not the right man anymore.

Loads of other options. Baines on, push Oviedo up. Even Osman to play a Cleverley type role and help defend. Deulofeu was the obvious one, or Barry and shut up shop (something Martinez has absolutely no concept of).

Barring bringing Tim Howard on up front, Niasse was the worst possible sub he could have made, and I honestly don't think any other manager would have made it. Or fan for the matter. The reasons why are too numerous to explain.
Good points but to bring Osman on "to help defend" that just aint right mate.

nope. tactically he outdid Bilic all game until, for some reason, he decided to tactically out do himself.

We did not get caught out by counter attacks either, so it was nothing to do with that. It was taking off our best player on the day and bringing on a forward with no experience of the PL.

Exactly. Seems that post was just any chance/hope of having a pop at me for some reason rather than anything based on reality.

I refuse to blame Lukaku's penalty for anything by the way. That first goal he scored was fantastic, and he made the second goal through pure genius, so if you blame him for the penalty and don't give him the credit for putting us in a winning position, then that's irrational.
