Roberto Martinez discussion

It's a shame that this squad will amount to nothing under this clown

Doubt we will have a better striker than Lukaku at the club in my life time

If we don't win our last 4 games this will be the worst home record in the PL era for Everton. If we win 3 it will be tied for worst. Arsenal, Southampton, Bournemouth and Norwich.

He is great at setting records, this Martinez.

He really is a liability at this point.

I'd now be surprised if Moshiri even allowed him the token 'dead man walking' period that incumbent managers usually get after a takeover.

Me and you have been fully in support of RM mate but (and tbf I haven't read your posts yet so you may have already done this) but we have to admit he got the change horribly wrong yesterday.

Del would have been a better option. The point was that Lennon was pressurising West Ham's defence but he also gave us a real outlet of pace - which meant that McCarthy was dropping deep into the box to help clear the crosses when they came in - and it was working.

My choice for the sub (not that I wanted it at all as we didn't need it) would have been Baines or Barry - but Del would definitely have been a better option than Niasse.

Ultimately that sub cost us just as much as Rom's (awful) penalty miss and Kev's red card.

Absolute horse nuts.
The blame is with Lukaku (penalty and one on one sitter), Funes Mori (spate of amnesia which meant he forgot how to jump) and Mirrallas.

The sub was a secondary reason which has been exaggerated by those looking for a way to shoe horn the manager into the criticism

A week ago FM was a future captain and amazing header of the ball. Aggressive. Passionate.

He has a mare but yet it's the managers fault.

Absolutely ridiculous.

If he has been watching Everton before investing he will know things haven't been good for Martinez for quite a while, Martinez can have no complaints if he's asked to leave, he's had a lot longer than most managers do. I keep looking on sky sports hopeing to see him sacked.

Exactly. Seems that post was just any chance/hope of having a pop at me for some reason rather than anything based on reality.

I refuse to blame Lukaku's penalty for anything by the way. That first goal he scored was fantastic, and he made the second goal through pure genius, so if you blame him for the penalty and don't give him the credit for putting us in a winning position, then that's irrational.

No I don't blame him for the pen miss but in that situation - given how good he had been as you rightly point out - it's disappointing for him not to have put it away.

If we had conceded straight away from that pen miss I may think differently, mind, but ultimately Martinez facilitated our downfall with that change, and he was then let down by the defenders as well.

As I've said, i've not turned on him completely but now I am starting to very much doubt - like a lot of people who want him out do - his ability to change.

To me, in the last few games since the turn of the year we have shown signs of improvement and in some games being excellent. However, there comes a point where signs aren't enough. I thought everything we and he did yesterday was fantastic (bar the pen miss) up until the 76th minute.

I said at the time it was a baffling substitution and as soon as they scored I had very little doubt they would go on to get more goals. And that's why it's so horrible to take - because he had done all the hard work and then messes it up with something that was quite frankly amateur - and the experienced and 'best squad we have in years' lacked the mental capacity and toughness to see the game out.

nope. tactically he outdid Bilic all game until, for some reason, he decided to tactically out do himself.

We did not get caught out by counter attacks either, so it was nothing to do with that. It was taking off our best player on the day and bringing on a forward with no experience of the PL.
outdone bilic all game ? so when song came on at 60 minutes and started running the show why did he wait till 89 mins to bring on Barry at 2-2 ?

It's not just that games yesterday though is it, most of the time Martinez is clueless and that's not going to help keeping our best players.

No mate he is finished...totally finished.

he holds onto the ball very well mate as long as he doesn't have to play more than 20 mins. Was excellent in the City game at home and away as well, so credit where it's due.

Still, the change should have been Baines or Barry, at a push maybe Del. The case remains that there just seemed very little need to change it. RM's tactics all game including the team selection had been top notch and proactive, but he messed it up big style.

Very good points mate.

As I've said a few times, Martinez set us up perfectly yesterday and was let down by Mirallas. But the fact is we were cruising at 10 men with or without that penalty miss, until Martinez decided to make that absolute 'mare of a sub.

So yeah, while it's always disappointing to see a player miss a penalty, I don't place any blame on subsequently conceding three goals on that miss whatsoever.

His "sitter" was simply a fantastic save, and the player made the chance himself by rolling two markers and steaming in on goal - hardly like it was put on a plate for him.
