Roberto Martinez discussion

So what about the long unbeaten run we put together before yesterday?
Or doesn't that matter?
How long? What's our home record? The man's indefensible. Far too many poor home performances at home for almost 2 seasons. He looked like he was trying to turn things around be he can't. He's also lost any grace he had with most of the match-going fans (In earshot anyhow).

I've mentioned them.

He missed a penalty - it happens, oh well. He also made his one on one miss a possibility by rolling two defenders and getting himself in on goal. It took a great save to deny him.

So how is he at fault for conceding three goals off the back of the managers substitution, after dominating the game, scoring once and assisting another?

He isn't to blame for conceding 3 goals. At all.
There is no justification, no "oh well" for missing those two chances.

Defensively, Funes Mori was pathetic. Oviedo and Barkley(?) and their failure to stop the cross for the second goal - pathetic.

Mirrallas getting sent off. Pathetic.

Martinez bringing on Niasse when his failure hasn't cost cost us a free header or a miss from 12 yards isn't even in the same league.

Yet you fail to mention his penalty miss and his one on one miss?
And I'm irrational?

What would we have done this season without all those times Lukaku made a goal from nothing (first goal yesterday for example). Strikers miss chances and sometimes pens. Sadly the rest of the team is so utterly broken that Lukaku is under pressure to score nearly every chance he gets every game. He'll hit 25 and we may well finish bottom half, an absolutely ludicrous state. Really discussion about the recent game shouldn't be in this thread because points made about the overall tenure of Roberto are countered by individual moments from individual games. We've had the same arguments after nearly every game this season, 'how can you blame the manager when 'x' does/doesn't do this'. What is the overall pattern? It's one of repeated mistakes, gross underperformance and slight improvement coming in short unsustained bursts that then revert to the norm. The answer to all is not 'because Lukaku missed a pen'

It's the level of the opposition, if we play someone half decent, we lose. Particularly at home

not particularly though mate.

we showed our class and resilience in abundance yesterday but the key to it working (when we had 10 men) was the pace and tenacity of Lennon.

I'm sorry, but in that situation, Lennon was fine. He may have been tired but he was still buzzing about and 5/10 minutes wasn't going to kill him. That's literally the difference - 5 minutes.

We were killing the game, and Lennon is genuinely one of our best players at doing that.

If he had to be changed, we had the smart choices on the bench to do so.

Broken? Wasn't broken when we had scored 12 or whatever and conceded 1.
Lukaku is BRILLIANT. The best striker we've had since Linekar probably.
But that doesn't excuse him from missing way chances.
If I go to work and I do brilliantly tomorrow, it isn't an excuse to make mistakes the day after.
He should have scored. Regardless of anything else.

Hahaha what long unbeaten run, the on that stretched from.west Brom. Or the one that stretched from Swansea.

Ah so the opponents are now not good enough for you?
Not a lot can help you there. You play what's in front of you.

As I said, until the 75th minute when he took Lennon off and brought Niasse on...

When Song came on, he really didn't start pulling any strings so stop talking bull. You know why he was so ineffective (and actually gave the penalty away for us), it's because he had Lennon and Besic all around him and Song cannot handle pace. Surprise surprise as soon as Lennon was taken off then there was no one around him and he had the freedom of GP.

We hammered them for the first 15 mins he was on, and should have scored twice with two moves straight through defensive midfield.

The blame for RM is with that sub.
song was on for 30 minutes and completed 29 passes. mccarthy 90 mins and completed 28. both defensive midfielders. from where I was sitting he was running the show allowing lanzini and Payet more freedom. not very effective though was he.

Define long unbeaten run. 3 games? 4 maybe hahaha do one lad

Long it was only a few weeks ago we lost to WBA. Then before this mini run we were diabolical, Howard's fault then, in the main it's one persons fault and that's the managers inability to manage a premiership football team.
